12 June Well, I was going to shower this morning, but when I turned the tap, a big fat nothing came out of it. Heading upstairs, I noticed a great deal of dampness in the laundry room, and figured that I knew what had happened. I said to Cynthia, "Do you have something that you want to tell me?" and she did. A pipe had burst in the laundry room, of course, and when they found it, they shut off the water. I felt terribly guilty, though, because I had heard it last night, the water, but I thought that it was just the washer running, and sounding a little funny. They only found it this morning. Whoops. I'm certainly glad that I didn't not shower all weekend, as I am sometimes wont to do, but that I was so disgusted with myself yesterday that I showered yesterday, and my hair was so dirty that I shampooed it three times. Always nice not to look like Encino Man in the office.
Yesterday I was feelin' hot hot hot. Actually, everybody was, 'cause it was like 97°. Rehearsal went pretty well for our first off-book day, but the director was overly concerned with exact wording of lines rather than actually rehearsing drastically in trouble sections, but as I told Sabine, I have decided to ignore the entire play and everything about it except for the sections that I am in. It's the only way to stay sane. I know that that sounds selfish and uncaring, but really, my bits are the only bits that I have any control over at all, and what can happen if you spend too much time worrying about other people's scenes and characters and blocking and line readings is that you forget to concentrate on yourself and you end up sucking. So since the only thing I can do is make certain that I myself am good, that's the only thing that I am paying the slightest bit of attention to. The blinders are on.
Every review of Sunshine that I have read or seen has been rapturous. What up with everyone? Why has no-one else noticed how deadly it is? It took years off my life, I swear. Hey, and I finally realized why I recognized the actress playing Young Valerie, and it wasn't because she just won the Tony for Best Actress in a Play, but because she was Elizabeth Bennett in my beloved Pride and Prejudice! It was the red hair that threw me.
A little poem I wrote last night, an Ode to a Bagel. I wanted to eat a bagel
Have you written a poem lately? And we're still talking about movies that we're looking forward to this summer, what we like to do on a summer night, Survivor, and celebrity encounters.
