(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

11 June

Boy, has it ever been hot! Can't wait to get back to my nice cool office tomorrow.

Ooh, the storm has started, and the nice cool breeze is whistling through the window. So we are continuing with never having more than two days of the same weather in a row. Since these past two days have been over 90°, I'm more than happy to head for the next two days.

Yesterday I dragged my sorry ass out of bed at 8.30a.

And why would I do such a foolish thing when I had gone to sleep at 2.30a the night before and it was Saturday? Why, in order to meet Ian the Terrible and his lovely fiancée Natalie for breakfast at the House of Pancakes, of course!

I am going to shoot their wedding in September, and though Ian has seen my work online, Natalie isn't Miss Web Loony and wanted to see something in real life.

Naturally, after getting only a few cat-filled hours of sleep, I was unable to find my boxes of wedding pictures at first (put them in an album? But that would be too easy!), but then I found the shelf that they were on and picked out the nicest prints from Michelle and Marq's and Rosemary and Eric's weddings. All BW, as I have no colour examples, but they seemed to go over well.

We got a little lost on the way over, and a little more lost on the way back, but it wasn't so bad, and they didn't appear to think that I was completely retarded for getting lost in my own neighbourhood. Ian was much taller than expected, and they were both just as nice as pie, and if they had noticed that I hadn't had time to bathe that morning, they were far too polite to make faces. You know, except for the cute ones that they kept making at each other, but I don't think they had to do with my dirty hair.

After that was my rehearsal with Lissa and Lee.

We were going to rehearse in Cynthia and Fran's bedroom, but since it is at the top of the house, it was like the surface of the sun at 12.30p yesterday afternoon. We rehearsed in the backyard instead.

I arranged the stage to be in the shaded part of the yard, under the Happy Porch, while I sat in the sun, fanning myself with a wicker fan that I have never used but onstage. The things I do to make my actresses comfortable.

We blocked, and will someone please tell me how three hours isn't long enough to block a fifteen minute show? 'Cause it's not, you know. Not even close.

(handshake)

We had to stop at 3.30p, though, so that I could get my ass into the city to the darkroom to blow up Sabine's picture.

You see, Sabine's picture needs to be on the set of the show that I'm in, as it's an important plot point, so I asked her if she had something that she could use, something that she looked period in, because I would be happy to take it.

So she bought a wig and I bought some daisies, and I made her look like the most innocent ingenue ever to walk the earth, and I was very happy with them when I blew them up.

Sabine is a terrific model--I have no idea if she has ever done it professionally, but she understands that the most important thing to do is to keep on moving, but to stay still and in focus at the same time. It's quite a trick, but I just had to catch what she was throwing me rather than to tell her what to do.

(handshake)

Then I came home and fed the mosquitos in the backyard with the family, drinking Sprite, telling stories, and listening to Classic Queen on Katie's boombox.

A nice way to spend a Saturday night in June.

What's your favourite thing to do on a hot summer night?
