9 February The most exciting thing happened at work yesterday! We cut checks! No, really, we did a really and for true check run for the first time since mid-November! I cannot even begin to explain how exciting it is to, you know, be able to do our jobs at long last. Of course, there have been checks cut in the past three months, but never more than ten-twenty-thirty at a time, always for emergencies, never a whole run, but they have at last given us some freakin' money (to the tune of a million a week for the next couple of months, actually) so that we can catch up at last. My, won't our vendors be pleased! And we're pleased to, that we can actually answer the phone and say to people "We'll get that check out to you this week," and have it be true. Of course, the check run couldn't go easily, it had to crash halfway through and we had to spend an extra hour redoing it, but it was a small price to pay to be able to cut 230 checks.
I haven't mentioned it for a while, but my soul still belongs to eBay. My collection of wildly obscure David Morse films continues apace (Magic Kid 2, anyone?), and I've gotten a few press kits and used (un-Morse-ish) DVDs and added to my wedding photo collection as well. And last night I took the next logical step--I started selling things. People have been selling Oscar ads from Variety, and people are really buying them! I saw one go for $81, which is ridiculous, but even if I sell them for only a few bucks, it's still free money, and I don't feel like it's a rip-off, 'cause there are many people in many places who haven't got such easy access to Variety, and if they want a collectible from a certain film, where else can they get it? I also listed a poster from this year's Academy Awards that my Mom got from the Academy, and, here's the exciting thing, it has a whole bid on it already! I can see how I can easily get as caught up in selling as I am in buying.
Heard on TV this morning: "Join WWF wrestler The Rock as he makes a Valentine's Day cookie, on the next Martha Stewart Living." It's Sweeps Month, alright!
