(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

6 February

So yesterday we had our first rehearsal in anything even approaching the space (not the real one but the right size) missing two actors, trying to time out the movements and trying to be off-book.

It was less than good but better than bad, most of the problems were because they didn't know their lines very well. Of course, today we are doing it for Philip and I kinda hope that it will go just the tiniest bit better!

"Diane, I'm holding in my hands a small box of chocolate bunnies."

So last night they started running my beloved Twin Peaks on Bravo. I haven't seen it in years, though of course I taped it ten years ago when it originally ran. It's different, though, watching it every week one episode at a time, than all on tape whenever you like. It's better.

I remember the night it premiered, I think I had arrived home from London that day, and I was so happy not to have missed it, because I had been hearing about it for months. I remember sitting on the floor of my apartment with my ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend, and my mind turned inside out. I always do something else while watching TV, but I didn't that day--I just stared at the screen.

I have never loved a show so unreservedly. Every scene, every moment was perfect. I remember when people would say "O, last night's episode wasn't very good," and I had no idea what they were talking about. How could it not be good? It was Twin Peaks!

I had a special outgoing message on my answering machine for Twin Peaks nights, saying "What are you doing calling me? Twin Peaks is on! Call back later!" but I don't remember getting more than one call--this town stood still on Twin Peaks nights.

It was so great last night, seeing all the characters being introduced, all my old friends:

Laura Palmer and Dale Cooper and Harry and Josie and Catherine and Pete and Shelly and Bobby and Leo Johnson and Benjamin Horne and Audrey and Donna and Major Briggs and Dr. Hayward and Andy and Lucy and Hawk and Norma and Big Ed and Nadine and James and Leland Palmer and Mrs. Palmer and Dr. Jacoby and Ronette Pulaski and The Log Lady.

And one of the best things was thinking about all of the places that the story is going and the characters yet to come:

Windom Earl and Dennis/Denise and Hank Jennings and Bob and Annie and The Man From Another Place and Albert and Richard Tremayne and Maddie and John Justice Wheeler and Gordon Cole and The One-Armed Man and my favourite character of all, the agoraphobic Harold Smith.

I am so happy! Saturday nights have much improved.
