5 February Still having the IE5 on a Mac problem, but I changed something slightly that might work. So, basically, if you're running IE5 on a Mac and you can read this, let me know!
So, last night I actually, factually had my whole cast together on one room for the very first time! Also the last until Wednesday. One of my little actors, one that I just clapped eyes on on Wednesday, has had a death in her family and must leave town for the funeral. She said that she'd understand if I wanted to recast, but since she is doing pretty much what I want her to do without my having to wrestle her into it, I'd rather keep her than getting an unknown. My other new cast member was astoundingly good. He has a teeny part but I howled at every little thing that he did. I'm ever so pleased. Also, he was late in arriving, so he missed my blocking the end, so when we ran it that was the first time he ever saw it, and he laughed and laughed. I said "Thanks for confirming that I'm not just fooling myself into thinking that it's funny!" All in all, I was happy with the rehearsal, and tonight and tomorrow we'll be in the space and we'll be able to time everything out properly. Because having a room of the correct size is absolutely critical to comedy, otherwise if you have to walk two steps too much or too little than planned, you're not gonna get your laughs!
After rehearsal, I rushed downtown to see Tracing and Colleen. Kate was supposed to be there too, but she pooped out. I walked into the restaurant and immediately demanded ice cream. "Ice cream, why ice cream? It's February!" they cried. "Actually," I said to Colleen, "It's your fault, because I read that entry where you said that you had ice cream for lunch because it was your birthday weekend, and ever since then, I've been dying to have some ice cream!" So we left on an ice cream quest, Tracing suggesting that we go to that great place on Bleeker where we had gone before, but insisting on taking the subway one stop in order to get there. Honestly. Just because it was 10.30p on a Friday night and she had worked 70 hours that week! Bone idle, that's her. So we went there and all ate vast quantities of homemade ice cream ("Wasn't this a good idea?" I kept demanding, "Yes, yes, you were right," they answered, over and over again.) and complained about the stupidest people in our respective offices. I had vanilla and white chocolate, which was just heaven, except for the part where it touched my cold sensitive tooth and my eyes bugged out. Come 11.45p, Tracing was weaving with exhaustion (and I don't mean on a loom) and Colleen was calculating how long it would take her to get home if she got the next train, so we all left. It was a really nice beginning to the weekend.
Going into the office again today. Will I never not need to work on a Saturday ever again?
