10 December So yesterday I was at work all damn day, but it wasn't so bad, because I rather like working on the weekends. There is no-one there but the cleaning staff, I can bring my computer and watch movies, I can get into a groove and work fast as lightning, because there are no damn people and no phone calls and it's very peaceful. I was there for seven and a half hours and watched The Green Mile and Notting Hill. It wasn't bad at all.
Afterwards I went to Anne's birthday party, getting there about two hours late, so I turned myself into a surprise. Nothing like a dramatic entrance. It was in Brooklyn, not that far from where I used to live. Kirkman, Anne's roomie, the one that I am desperate to take pictures of, did the inviting, and she put the right street address but the wrong cross-street in the email, so I'm standing there on the corner thinking that none of these closed, dark, shuttered buildings are a bar with a birthday party inside, but then I followed the street address and found it on the next corner. It was an astoundingly noisy bar, lots of boom boom boom dj music coming from a speaker right above our heads, but I didn't think it was so bad, though I was doing alot of lipreading. Afterwards, Anne said that they chose the bar because it's usually so quiet. Not on a Saturday night, I guess! Anyway, it was lots of fun, and I met lots of characters from her journal, Greenwich and Hugh Grant and Foxy and her new husband, and saw people that I had met before like Kirkman and Jenny O and Andrea, but the coolest thing was meeting Bitch and Animal, the Bitch and Animal. These are not Anne's pseudonyms for them, but their actual professional names. They are a terrific duo that Anne included on the birthday cd that she made for me, and it's one of those situations where you can feel confident in recommending the performers that are your friends, because they are really talented, not people that you like. I really want to get their cd. Anyway, we all had a swell time yelling over the music and it took absolutely years to get home.
