29 August So yesterday was my first day back at work ,and I thought that I was really looking forward to going back to work, and as I was walking down the street, it started to sprinkle, then rain, the pour. The streets flooded so quickly that the water didn't have anyplace to go, and the gutters were so full that they were four feet wide on most streets, so there was nothing to do but splash across. Also, the wind was blowing, so the front of my shirt was getting wet. I did have my umbrella up, but since it is only exactly as wide as my shoulders, in order to keep my bag dry, my left arm from the shoulder down was drenched. By the time I got to work, it looked as though I had been swimming in my clothes, my jeans were soaked to the hips--to the knee from walking through gutters, but above the knee was just as wet, and that was from walking down the street. I was so wet that when I was splashed by a hydroplaning car (that splashed my face, might I add) it didn't get me any wetter than I was. When I got inside, I found that a small circle on the top of my head was the only dry part of my body. It was as though my umbrella were a beanie. And I had to sit in wet jeans all day.
Know what? I'm gonna be late for work! Ah, those old familiar words, we know that we're back to normal now. I'll finish about yesterday tomorrow.
Don't forget to go read Eo, this week's Journal of the Week!
Last night, I was ICQing with Cameron, and it came out that I not only like Waterworld, I adore it. She was nonplussed, but then, she loves The Abyss, so it's not like she can talk. What generally reviled film do you love? And we're still talking about too much vacation, strange little rituals, making ourselves look younger or older, hypochondriacs, favourite musicals, happy birthday, the worst remake ever, cartoon character crushes, what Amazon.com might come up with next, vacations, what we did this weekend, insomnia, dreams that we thought were true upon awakening, weeping at movies, true love, and swearing.
