7 August

I am in tears. Not because I am sad, but because sometimes people are just so sweet.

Dawn and I have been bantering back and forth on the whole Russell Crowe issue the past couple of days, and she asked if it was me posting on the Fametracker message boards under the screen name "Sweet as a Biscuit". I answered that it was not me, but if other people had pegged that vocal tic, I should probably register the domain, which was still available.

Now, I meant it, but I didn't mean it, meaning that I wanted to register it, but I probably wouldn't get around to it, knowing me. Well, this morning in my mailbox was the following note:

"The whole month of August is your birthday, right?

Hope you like it... I got the info off your current whois, so I hope it's all still current. You can check the status and details, and make any changes you need.

Not that this is a sign of capitulation or anything, you understand! ;-)

Ciao,
Dawn

I read that and just burst into tears. I don't know if I have ever gotten so sweet and thoughtful a gift, and if I don't get a single other thing for my birthday, not even one thing, it'll still be the Best Birthday Ever.

And all I can do in return is make Dawn Journal of the Week!

(small madeleine)

What is the most surprising and thoughtful present that you've ever received?

And we're still talking about publicity, cravings, being behind the times, irrational fears, family legends, what to write about when there's nothing to write about, swearing, our top ten songs, and Australian (and New Zealand) yumminess.

Today's horoscope:
You easily persuade and entertain others, expressing ideas dramatically. Quick on the trigger today, you could speak impulsively or exaggerate.

One year ago today:
It wasn't like looking into a mirror, but it was like listening to one.
