(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

15 April

Here it is, 9.22p and no entry as yet. Bad bad me.

Last night was the beginning of my three day weekend.

Why is it a three day weekend? Why, because at the end of March when I was pulling out my hair by the handfuls, I was saying that I couldn't fucking wait until Memorial Day for a three day weekend, so I would make one in April.

I asked The Raccoon if she preferred me to take a Monday or a Friday, and she said Friday, so I decided that it had to be a non-payroll Friday, as I have so much to do on those days, so I chose Good Friday, but before I made it official, The Raccoon decided to take that day off herself, so I moved it to this Monday.

I have so much to do at the office that I almost decided to cancel it, but as Friday wore on, I became more and more attached to the idea. And besides, if I did cancel it, I wouldn't be able to take a weekend until May, and what's the point of doing that when there is Memorial Day at the end of the month?

So, this is my three day weekend. And it's raining and it's cold, but I don't care at all, it's beautiful, by me.

So, last night Cynthia and Fran and I go free tickets to see Champions on Ice at the Garden, which was just keen.

I haven't seen live skating for about five years or so, and there is something so exciting about it, especially if you are used to seeing it on TV. Seeing the whole rink all at once, seeing the skater in context, is just so fascinating and fun.

And the show was great! All kinds of swell skaters were there, like my beloved Brian Boitano, the greatest male skater still skating (Robin Cousins is the greatest male skater of all time), Michelle Kwan, Philippe Candeloro, Todd Eldridge, Usova and Platov, Alexei Yagudin, Klimova and Ponomarenko, Victor Petrenko, Elvis Stojko, Irina Slutskaya, Punsalan and Swallows, and little Sarah Hughes, our new favourite.

Also, there were Oksana Baiul, Surya Bonaly and Nicole Bobek, aka three out of the five most insane ladies skaters around, only missing Maria Butyrskaya and Pasha (formerly Oksana) Grishuk. Must make for a very interesting tour bus!

Oksana skated very well, but Nicole Bobek fell on her ass. It wouldn't be a real skating show if she didn't! And Surya--I have no idea how people think that that's skating. I call that lumbering around the ice, stopping, and jumping, not skating. The backflip landing on one foot is good, but the rest is crap.

Philippe bobbled a bit, too, as per usual, doing his Braveheart routine, as he has never skated a clean program in his life, but strangely enough, you never care with him. He always had the personality of a pro, even when he was an amateur.

Dan Hollander did a fun routine as Cartman to him singing "Sailing", though he missed a great opportunity to skate to "What Would Brian Boitano Do?", followed by her taking off his Cartman coat and underneath he was Mrs. Doubtfire. It was a pretty great routine, which I guess is necessary when you're not all that famous!

Rudy Galindo got a huge response, what with him being sick and all, and when he came out to do his old, tired "Send in the Clowns" routine, I was rolling my eyes, but it was really lovely and moving. I never much liked him, I'm not crazy about that showy, pandering style, but I don't know whether I'm cutting him slack because of his illness or because I'm seeing real feeling out there, but I like him much better now.

But the best part of the evening was at the top of the second act, a male-male pair called Vladimir Besedin & Alexei Plishuk (who seems to have changed his name to Oleksiy Polishchuk).

They were announced as The fastest acrobats on skates!", which was funny, because they actually moved in slow-motion, climbing all over each other in a remarkable display of strength that was also flat-out hilarious.

When the show was over, the three of us turned to each other and immediately said "Who were those guys?!" because even after the tops skates in the world skated, even after the quite astonishing finale, they were all we could think about. Why are they not more famous?

And now it's 10.41p, and if I don't get a wiggle on, there won't be any entry at all for today!

Can anyone, besides Columbine, identify the javascript title today? I'll be awfully impressed!
