(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

10 April

So, the other day I passed by a deli that had these plants out front that were just starting to grow. I could tell that they were bulbs of some kind, but nothing else, so I asked and neither did the guy working there know what they were!

I figured that it was like a grab bag with a surprise at the end, so I bought one. I was hoping that it wouldn't end up being one of those awful flowers that are like purple pinecones, but I figured that if it was I would love it just the same, so that I wouldn't hurt the plant's feelings.

Well, yesterday when I woke up, the ends of three of the stems had started to open slightly, and by the time I went to bed, about eight flowers were completely open, and they are daffodils!

They are just so cute, and they were growing like a sonovabitch--everytime I would look at them they were obviously bigger and more open. It was like one of those stop motion films.

And the funniest thing was that, because my apartment gets no direct sunlight and I had put them near a window rather than on the sill so that Baldrick wouldn't knock it down, all the flowers are leaning with their faces pointing in the same direction, like they were waiting at the stage door for an autograph.

I'm putting them outside today for a treat.

I was just reminded by Dianne that I left Being John Malkovich off the list of Top Five Best John Cusack films yesterday, and she was right! I did in fact forget, but I'd have to get rid of The Sure Thing in order to get it on, and that would break my heart.

By the way, this morning I was adding amazon links to the list, and was horrified to find that you can get as many copies of One Crazy Summer that anyone would want, but The Sure Thing is out of print!

I will never understand that.
