Pretty, ain't? Thanks Beth!

So yesterday I finally got my new refrigerator!

It was supposed to be delivered on the 24th, but since I took off the 23rd, The Raccoon was on vacation and The Evil Overlord was just back from her vacation, so I thought that taking part of the day off would be bad and wrong.

And besides, my old fridge was going gangbusters ever since I bought the new one. Nothing like spending $500 on a new fridge to make the old one good as new!

So, since my choices were Thursdays and Tuesdays, I chose yesterday. They called me on Monday and I had put on my outgoing message of my voicemail that I wanted the earliest window possible, and they gave me a window from 8.50a-12.50p.

So I got up at 8a and started cleaning and moving and this-ing and that-ing--moving furniture and boxes and mopping the floor (hey, didn't I already do that?) and washing the dishes (so that I can have the sink clear for mopping purposes) and I was sort of hoping that they wouldn't arrive on the dot of 8.50a, 'cause I wasn't going to be ready in time. Ha.

By about 10.30a I was as done as I was ever gonna be, so I settled down to listen for the door. By noon I was getting a little tired of being constantly alert, like a pointer or something. By 1p they were late.

I called Topps Appliance City and, after being on hold for twenty minutes (there is a hideous recording where every fifteen seconds the bland music is interrupted with a voice saying "all circuits are still busy, could you please hold?" and because she is asking rather than saying, I said "yes" the first three times I heard it) and they said that the truck had just left the stop before me, so they should be there in just a couple of minutes.

That was at 1.30. I called The Raccoon and told her that the truck was delayed, but that it should get there soon, and I'd be into work by around 3p. At 2.30p, when the truck still wasn't there, I called Topps again, and again after 20 minutes on hold I was told that they couldn't reach the truck on the phone, but that she was sure that they were on their way.

At that point I called work and she urged me not to bother coming in. I didn't much want to take three personal days in a single pay-period but whatcha gonna do.

Anyway,it finally arrived at 4p. God only knows why they bother with giving you a four hour window when it's going to arrive three hours later! Anyway, I have my new fridge, and I was able to spend a few hours in the backyard after it finally arrived, and man the floor is clean!

Of course, then I should have gone to the movies and used up my last pass, but I just couldn't bear the thought, so instead I celebrated the end of obsessive movie-going and the arrival of my new fridge with steak and a lobster tail (from my Mom from Omaha Steaks) and I finally ate the box of chocolate that my cast got me for closing night.

Yes, I ate the whole box,and no, it's not as piggy as it sounds, since everything was very tiny and exquisite. Some, like the praline of walnuts or the lavender rose petal caramel, were delicious. Some, like the ganache with verbena and rose petal or the ganache with fennel and marjoram flower, were surprisingly tasty. Some, like the ganache of ultra bitter cocoa and the praline with thyme, were revolting.

And some, like the coulis of prune and the praline with a hint of curry, I was glad that I didn't get!
