(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

19 October

Another eleven hour day at work yesterday, but I discovered a cool after-hours trick, flashing back to what I did in the darkroom the other day.

I knew that I would be hanging, thinking that I would be scanning, but instead just doing my regular work. We finally got our system upgrade and most of the day was spent grabbing Danny, our swell new Upgrade Guy (no more of That Rat Mayur--we broke him), away from everyone else who needed help. As I told him, AP is the most needy and demanding department, but also the most grateful!

Anyway, the trick was to bring my computer and, after everyone left, watch my beloved While You Were Sleeping.

I work so much faster and better with a movie running--a movie that I know well enough that I needn't stare at every second, because it keeps my mind busy as I'm doing mindless work, and because I'm interested, I am not even remotely tempted to stop and check my email or read an entry.

I work harder while watching a movie! I should get to watch them all day.

I have decided that it is a greater skill to take pictures of objects than people. Because when you are shooting a person, it's a collaboration, and if you're real spontaneous like me, it's just a matter of being alert and catching the moments as they occur.

But if you are doing still-lifes (lives?) it's all about placing yourself and making the picture and you can move it around and it's more cerebral. Photographing living things is of the heart, photographing objects is of the head.

Maybe I'm over-thinking this...

Certain people on break are poking their heads up again. Including a butt-ugly picture of me! And an interesting one.

You gotta hide after scanning the room for friends!
