18 October Well yesterday was a day of fun and joy and happiness! Tracing and I got together with Diane Patterson, who came to NY because she felt all guilty for avoiding me in LA for two years in a row, and because she knew that I had only met 32 journallers and I wanted to meet 33. She's all accommodating like that!
I was 45 minutes late getting to the hotel, 'cause I give and I give and I give and then I give some more (and also I have no organizational skills that don't involve obsessive/compulsive disorder) and I saw Pathetic Bronchitis Girl and her husband, Pathetic Bronchitis Guy. We had a bizarre conversation about Traverse City, Michigan. Bizarre to me, because I cannot get my mind around four random people in a hotel room in Manhattan having been to this tiny town in northern Michigan. Then us three girls went out to paint the town red! Woohoo!
Okay, maybe light pink? We wandered around and got some food then walked to the park and sat on some big lawn somewhere that I should know the name of (The Sheep Meadow? The Great Lawn? It's not like I have lived here for seventeen years or something) and ate and dished journallers and I made Diane tell all about Pamie's show while she shooed away every bug within 1000 feet ("You don't camp much, do you?" I said). I had the great joy of seeing a skeeter on Tracing's cheek and making the split decision that, if I told her about it, it would finish and leave, so I slapped her. She was quite startled!
It started to rain after a while, and we decided that walking in the rain was better than sitting in the rain, so we did that, stopping at Starbucks, where I bought something for the very first time. And it was totally obvious, because I asked for a small hot chocolate with whipped cream and kind of stood in the same place waiting for it, and Diane ordered a Grande Skim Cocoa and walked confidently over to the place where they hand it to you. I felt Starbucks inadequate. Like Elly Mae or Nell. And why do they call a small "Tall"?
When I got home I accidentally turned on the Mets game, and ended up watching it for two hours. It was Mets/Braves ties 2-2 and it went to fifteen innings before a grand slam was hit (though he didn't run the bases so it only counted for a single). I have decided that I'm rooting for the Mets over the Braves 'cause the Braves are so damn smug. And I couldn't care less about a fucking Subway Series, so I'm rooting for the Sox over the loathsome Yanks, who are smug as well, besides being The Great Satan. The Sox and the Mets, that would be an interesting Series!
