(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

15 October

Well, I can tell that it's really the fall.

This morning, as I write this, I have turned on my space heater for the first time since April or whatever.

Actually, I could have turned it on earlier, but I have been living in the bedroom since the flood (if not before) so I have cuddled under the duvet when cold. But a couple of days ago I decided that I was sick of living exclusively in my bedroom, that too much reclining on my right arm meant for an achy right arm, that spending entire weekends in bed was no longer a fun treat, but that I was starting to feel a little like a shut-in.

All of my living room furniture has been pushed over to the side since my fridge was delivered, which made for an airier-feeling living room, but left me with no place to sit, an oven and a sink that were tricky to get into because of the boxes piled up in front of them, and cats eating in the middle of the floor.

So on Wednesday night I came home from work, the cats were yowling for their dinner, but I just couldn't stand it anymore so I swept the floor and dragged everything back into the middle and brought my computer back from the bedroom and put it on my kitchen table.

Much more civilized.

By the way, for the confused amongst you, my living room and kitchen are one long room with one bleeding into the other. Like an Escher drawing.

Yesterday was another day of conspicuous consumption for me.

I walked down to the croissant place for lunch, which takes me past Coliseum Books...and I went in. Against my will, I swear! I think that that place is magnetized, that's the only explanation of why I can't walk by that place without going in.

On one of my mailing lists the night before, someone mentioned a book that I've been meaning to get for awhile, Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married, the new book by Marian Keyes, the author of Watermelon, one of the best books that I have read recently. You wouldn't think that a book about a woman who's husband leaves her minutes after their child was born could be so hilarious, but it is.

"I'll go in and just get that, I won't even look at any other books!" I said before I went in. Ha ha ho.

To make a long story short (too late!), I got a new copy of Time and Again, because I cannot find the old one for love nor money, and Extremely Nice Reader Cecelia sent me the sequel, From Time to Time, for my birthday and I want to re-read the first one before reading the second.

I also got, just because they caught my eye and wouldn't let go, Waltzing the Cat and Love : A User's Guide, the latter being a novel, not a self-help book. Is is too goony to say that I got it 'cause I really liked the font on the back cover? Probably.

Today's horoscope:
The lure of the new and different competes with the attraction of the known and familiar. Keep room for both in your family life.

Boy, does he ever stink of has-been! I can smell him from here.
