(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

14 October

There is nothing nicer than coming home before the rain starts and sitting all warm and dry in your apartment listening to a giant thunderstorm, knowing that you don't have to go out in it.

It is less nice the next morning when you know that you do.

This makes me think, as I posted, to my children's book mailing lists, that I don't know why I am always surprised at the depths to which the stupid and self-righteous can sink, because clearly they just keep getting lower.

Of course, one woman wrote that it wasn't bad and wrong, but, in fact, good and right to ban the books, because "There is no place in school for occultism". I answered "There is a difference between occultism and fairy stories."

I thought it was classier than calling her an asshole.

I mean, besides the fact that I am a fan of the books, they are clearly magical because I gave the first one to Katie, The Child Who Doesn't Read, for her birthday and she devoured it in just a couple of days, and surfaced begging for the sequels.

A book that makes children love reading? Ban it immediately! Only boring books belong in our children's hands, that'll teach them what life is really like!

Movies that I am dying to see (a reaction to this entry of Columbine's):

The Limey
The Straight Story
Guinevere
The Sixth Sense (again)
Three Kings
Twin Falls Idaho
Fight Club
The Story of Us

The first two are the ones that I am most desperate to see. Maybe I'll see them both this weekend.

Hey, that interview that I did months ago, the one that I took these pictures for, is finally out!

The magazine is called Personal Journaling, and it's from Writer's Digest, and I have gotten several emails (that I will answer soon!) from nice people who read the article I'm in. I haven't read it myself yet, but I'm certain that I'll find it soon.

The online version of the mag is here but I don't think that the bit about me is there.
