30 November So yesterday was tech for Guacamole Toes. The evening as a whole was absolutely aces--four shows other than us, all solid and hilarious. We were just kind of okay, but that was just because it was our first time in the space and everyone felt a little off. Also, it's slapstick, unlike the other shows, and if slapstick is a little bit off, it feels like it's a mile off. It'll be better tonight, I'm sure it will be. We're group-reading Leave It To Beany on my Beany Malone list, and yesterday's summary included the following: "Now Sheila is indispensable to the Malones. She teaches Johnny to say 'Pogue ma hone!', which means 'The back of my hand to ye!'" And my answer: "This is intensely amusing. I haven't read this book in years and years, so, of course, the last time I did so I didn't know that Pogue ma hone doesn't even remotely mean anything about hands. It means, literally, Kiss my ass." Afterwards, someone wrote in an hilarious story about how her Spanish teacher in high school taught the class a term good for yelling at taxi drivers that he said meant "You are an idiot!" and years later she found that it really meant "You have no dick!" Okay, my Amazon wishlist wasn't up yesterday, but it's up today. And for those who think that I think that I'm going to get that many presents, I don't, honestly, I just put everything into the wishlist that I had put aside in the shopping cart as "save for later", but this way I don't have to worry about them disappearing after 90 days.
