(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

7 November

I'm sitting here, watching the NY Marathon run through my old neighbourhood.

Last year I decided that I was going to go and see it this year, go back home, but I couldn't get darkroom time yesterday, so I have to go in today.

I miss the Slope, I miss Fourth Ave., I miss the Williamsburg Bank clock tower, I miss everything else that they have shown so far that I used to see every day for ten years. I guess that I also miss who I was then, I guess I miss being in my twenties.

So yesterday I met my 33rd journaller, the one the only Kim Rollins!

She and Dennis came into town for the weekend, and, after being extremely lame about working out exactly when and where we were meeting, I called her on her cell-phone around noon and we decided to hook up after they had lunch and I returned some library books.

I had found another hideously old book that I hadn't returned, and thought that I might as well, so I did, but when she scanned it in, it wasn't attached to my card in the system, presumably because it was over three years overdue, and I didn't have to pay a penny! Pretty cool.

Then I tried to call Kim about ninety-three times, the problem being that I had forgotten my calling card, and it's a long distance call to Kim's cell-phone and the pay phone wanted $3.65.

Now, usually I would have $3.65 in change, but I had left my change purse at home. So first I tried a third party billing to Mom's phone, but the call didn't go through, then I remembered that I could charge it to a credit card, so I tried and tried and the call just kept fizzing out.

Finally I got through and they were just a few cross-town blocks from me. We tried to figure out where to meet.

ME
So, where are you going to be?

KIM
We're going to Central Park.

ME
Um, can you be a trifle more specific?

We finally, with the help of Dennis' brother, who lives here and knows where everything is, decided to meet in front of the Plaza.

ME
How will I know you?

KIM
Dennis is 6'8" and looks exactly like Qui-Gon Jinn.

ME
I'll watch for the light sabre!

Gotta go to the darkroom, more tomorrow!
