(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

13 June

Ah, my favourite way to spend a Sunday morning, having gotten my breakfast at McDonald's, and getting home in time to listen to the last hour of the Lemurline on KTUH via Realaudio.

Even though she's doing some sort of 80's hard rock block, Warrant et al. Ah good, Joe Jackson. That's better. And I didn't even have to fight or beg for breakfast, either, they served it right up to 11a and beyond, as far as I can tell.

It was really weird, because usually they will arbitrarily stop breakfast, just because they feel like it, not because they have run out of anything, and they will only make more hash brown patties when they run out, and then they will make only like two, but today I saw a girl fill the basket with as many hash browns as it could hold, before even they ran out or anything!

It's moments like that that keep me running to that place on the weekends even when I wake up really late--because sometimes, just sometimes, I'll get my breakfast...

It's been a real theatre weekend for me, with possibly more to come if I can finish this entry and get the hell out of the house.

Friday night I saw the Chekhov one-acts at the theatre, which ranged wildly from the very good to the, um, less than spectacular.

Fran was in the first one, a two handed piece where one guy talks and one guy reacts, and Fran was the reactor, or as he put it "I'm the wall that the other guy plays handball against", but it was much more than that, and he was extremely good. Then was a quite marvelous piece called The Bear with excellent perfs all around, and then the nightmare began.

You ever feel like you're in a dream and you can't get out? That was this piece. It's not one of Chekhov's best, but besides that it contained on the same stage, about the ten most annoying actors in the company. One or two were not, but they had smaller roles. It was one of those situations where it was as bad as it could get, and then another actor would come onstage and you realized that what you thought was bad wasn't anything like, and then someone else would enter and it was a hundred times worse!

And they were all doing bad Russian accents. Or not Russian, but I'm certain that that's what they thought they were doing.

The last piece was making its American debut, and had much the same cast, but wasn't so bad, in fact one guy from the previous show was quite excellent in this one, proving that if well-cast he's really worth watching.

Cynthia went to see it last night, and asked whether she should leave after the second show. "O no," I cried, "You must see the third piece! Why should I be the only one to suffer?"

Then yesterday I was going to try to catch the matinee of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, but got into the city too late, and since I hadn't had time to shower I looked like such an urchin that I was almost glad that I missed it.

I asked at the box office if they had any $20 tickets left for today, but they had only $60 left. I want to see the show, but not that badly, so I asked if it would be up on the board today (meaning the TKTS half-price ticket booth) and he said that it might well, so I'll give it a go.

If I can't get a ticket, I'll try for Via Dolorosa, which is closing today as well.

And if I don't upload this entry and shower, I won't get to see anything, so I'm outta here!

Possibly the most pathetic sight in New York City is that of limo attached to a tow truck.
