Shit it's hot! I'm drinking Pepsi after Pepsi, and regretting it when I wake up in the morning and have to run to the bathroom. I'm also getting to the point that I get to every year (though usually not quite so early in the not-even-summer-yet) where I realize that pop doesn't actually quench your thirst, it just makes you thirstier, and I remember "O yeah! Water!"
Rehearsal last night was, thankfully, air conditioned, so I was bundled up in my shawl without actually melting into a puddle on the floor. We ran through it fairly well, until we got to Gregg's and my scene and he went insane and forgot the one line that I couldn't do without. He has to make an insulting gesture, you see, that I then comment on later in a long speech, that is all about said insulting gesture and I could not possibly leave it out. So we got to the point where I had to say my speech and I turned to the audience and said "Well, I'm almost certain that he was planning on..." Gregg said later that he had only realized that he had left it out when Stan and Emmanuelle had their entrance, but if it ever happens again, he could just make the gesture then, as we have some time to kill. I mean fill.
At the second runthrough, he stopped again at that point, which is not a problem he has ever had before, so we went back and started over and we were smokin'! It was better than it ever was before. Gregg said "Maybe we can do it twice every time!" but I don't think that would work so well in front of an actual audience.
Hmmm, I just realized that we open tomorrow and have never once gone through it without stopping. This is not just because we screw up occasionally, it's also because Linda will stop us and throw in a direction rather than letting us get through it. Also, we have only once ever rehearsed in the space and the blocking has changed since then. When I direct, I want to rehearse in the space or in a comparable space as often as possible, especially the last couple of rehearsals, because it makes such a difference! If it's a comedy and you generally rehearse in a much smaller space than you will perform in, it's impossible to time things out properly. I've got an entrance bit that has never been worked in anything even remotely resembling the right amount of space. Oy.
