Sorry about yesterday, guys, but I was unable to update before leaving the house, as something was up with my ISP. It's there now, though!
So yesterday was a Big Day! First was my first rehearsal for my new show, then was the Buffy finale, then the premiere of The Blair Witch Project, so it was a day of many joys. I'll talk about the show later, and I messed up taping Buffy, so if anyone within the sound of my voice has a tape that they want to lend me, I'll love you forever! Also, I only got about five hours of sleep so I'm not thinking that straight. I think I can get my Blair Witch thoughts out, though.
So back in January, there was major buzz at Sundance regarding a really scary movie that was shown out of competition called The Blair Witch Project, a pretend documentary about three kids who went into the woods to do a movie on a local legend and were never seen again. I also saw the clip of when Heather is filming herself and you only see part of her face. Well, that was it. I decided that I wanted to see it, and I decided that I didn't want to know anything more! I thought that would be easy, since for months afterwards I didn't hear a word, but suddenly, around April or so, the word of mouth started to build and build. But I stayed strong! I didn't go to the website, except for just long enough to get a screensaver, or the other website, I didn't watch the TV special (taped it, though!), I turned off Siskel and Ebert when the review started, I didn't look at The Blair Witch Journal, hell, I couldn't even read Pamie's entry yesterday! I didn't care that, supposedly, nothing was spoiled by all this, that it was all background information that would, in fact, enhance my viewing pleasure, but I didn't care! I could only watch this film one time without knowing anything, why would I not want that experience? I can read everything and watch everything and go everywhere and enhance my viewing pleasure the second time I watched it, I wanted the first time to be pristine.
So, last night was the midnight premiere at the Angelika, and I was going with Iko, The Blair Witch Fanatic, and Andria. Tracing was supposed to come too, but she totally wimped out. Iko was going to get there early, because they were giving out free stuff to the first people in line, but I had rehearsal and couldn't get there until 10p or so. By the time I did get there, she was staggering under the weight of all of the t-shirts and posters and things, and Andria had just gotten there, too. Her's husband, Sean, was supposed to come, too, but he wasn't there yet. There was also a nice friend of Iko's whose name escapes me. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to cut into line, that the All Day Line people would eviscerate us and drink our blood and things but because everyone already had tickets we were able to do so without upsetting people. I had never met Iko before, so we were describing ourselves in email. I said "I'm wearing an aqua shirt and my hair is dirty." "Dirty blonde?" she inquired. "No, dirty as in unwashed. No pictures, I look like an urchin!"
So, they came 'round giving free stuff every so often, but none for us, only for the True Believers who were there since noon (aka People Without Jobs)! Actually, Iko, being gainfully employed, was only there solidly from 7p, but she took a long lunch hour on the line so was considered to be one of the Faithful. I did snag a poster right before we went in, as they must have had extras.
Andria kept phoning Sean, who was supposed to be there at 11p but was wandering vaguely round the Village, under the impression that time was standing still or something. At one point, we were herded into separate queues, as there were three screenings, at 11.45p, midnight and 12.15a. We were in the 11.45p group because, as I observed, the midnight group was so behind the times. They were herding people by us, and I heard my name. It was Mad Brunette, who was also going to the 11.45p show. "Get in line behind us!" we cried, "We are correct, those that are trying to bring you elsewhere are not!" Of course it turned out that we were entirely wrong and had been given erroneous information, but we were escorted in and put in the front of the line for being the True Believers! Now, there were several True Believers in our group, but Andria and Iko's friend and me were merely pretenders and felt a little guilty about being swept to the front like that, but we got over it. Sean still had yet to arrive, so Andria gave his ticket away to some pathetic crawling ticketless wretch outside, and made his night. Sean showed his ass up about ten minutes later, battered his way in to us, but left when he discovered his wife's perfidy. Andria, on the other hand, didn't feel at all guilty, as he was like forty minutes late. I hope they made up soon, because today is their anniversary!
I am going to be so late for work. More tomorrow!
Yay! Yay yay yay YAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!!!
