15 January So there was all this snow again yesterday. Which means that there was a snow day from school, which means that Molly didn't get to go to her pre-school and wear the crown and have muffins for her birthday. She took it well, I understand, but if it's a snow day again today (and I wouldn't fall over with shock if it is), there will be hell to pay. A three year old only has so much patience and understanding. After work I ran home to her little dinner party (stopping off at the Disney Store for a Lady and the Tramp video), but because I arrived generally late, it was almost her bedtime and she was veering back and forth wildly between normalcy and hysteria. She has also got in this dreadful habit of, whenever she has a camera pointed at her, stopping whatever she was doing that was so photogenic, and simpering. Which of course makes me not take the picture. I had to wait for her to throw a temper tantrum before I got some good natural pictures of her. Got some good ones of Bonnie eating chocolate for the first time, too.
I got to work yesterday and worked for about three hours before Jim came to talk to me and said that he needed to ask me a question because The Raccoon wasn't there. ??? I swear, I didn't even notice! Just goes to show how chatty we are in the morning with each other!
And sitting on my desk when I arrived in the morning was my Christmas present from Nik! He had bought it on Sunday before we went to the movie, and offered me to opportunity to get it without wrapping paper, an opportunity that I scorned scornfully, might I add, so yesterday it appeared, all wrapped up (kind of charmingly using brown packing tape rather than scotch tape). It was two DVD movies, LA Confidential and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, the former because he knew I love the movie so much, and the latter because it was our first date, which I thought was extremely sweet. Unless he just got that one because he knows I like the movie and it wasn't a sentimental choice, which is also extremely possible. I prefer the first reason, myself. Now all I needed was a DVD player...
Fortunately, I got my new computer yesterday! It is so beautiful that I would marry it if I could. It is tiny and small and pretty and I only had to spend two or three hours with Gateway and Netcom tech support before I could manage to actually get onto the Internet with it! And I watched a little of LA Confidential, and my God it was so clear and sharp and fabulous, it puts video to shame. Now all I have to do is move everything important from one computer to the other. Thank goodness I have a Zip drive.
Some quite stunning news from Emily... Who remembers Sage Lunsford? Who remembers Coffee Shakes? Well, I do, and anyone around in '96 and before does, too. When I discovered that other people besides me were keeping their journals on the web, hers was the first one I really got addicted to. And then one day she was gone, and strong men wept. And now...well, why don't I let Sage tell you herself!
