17 February My conjuring of Spring worked! The spectre of snow is still being muttered about on the evening news, but it was beautiful yesterday. I want days and days just like that.
Nik's father and his father's girlfriend are coming to town. They come to town a couple times a year for business purposes (hers), and this time the three of them are going to see Cabaret. I whined piercingly when I heard, since I am desperate to see it again, after falling madly in love with it when I saw it for my birthday. Well, last week Nik said that his dad might not come after all, because one of his dogs was sick and he didn't want to leave him, so I immediately said that if he didn't come, I wanted to buy that ticket! Now, of course I don't want the dog to be sick, and I want Nik to see his father, but on the other hand, I really want to see Cabaret. The word this week is that the dog is fine and he is coming after all (and Nik suggested that the three of us will go out again, like we did last time), but only for four days rather than ten, as he has too much work to do, and he didn't know what day she bought the tickets for! So, there is a chance that this will all turn out perfectly! Nik will see his father, no animals are sick, and I'll get to see Cabaret!! I'm crossing fingers, I'm crossing toes, I'm crossing eyes--nothing is being left un-crossed!
If there's one thing I find incredibly erotic, it's the sound of someone playing the guitar who is extremely good at playing the guitar. By guitar, I mean acoustic, and by playing I mean finger-picking. And by someone I mean someone like James Taylor or Paul Simon or David Wilcox. This occurred to me last night, as I was listening to JT's New Moon Shine, which is a wonderful album, during the extended guitar-picking into for "Like Everyone She Knows". I think this is left over from having a guitar-playing college boyfriend, with whom I used to sit in the stairwell of the dorm and watch him play and sing for hours and hours. It's not just the sound of the guitar, it's the sound of the fingers on the strings. If you are listening just right, you can hear what it would feel like if they were touching you.
Amanda's sure got a kickass redesign, ain't?
