(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

15 February

Had a decent VD day yesterday, even though I was dateless, as I did speak to my fella on the phone, planning today's date (do a Saturday night date and a Monday night date equal one Valentine Sunday date?).

I didn't even poke the tip of my nose out of doors for even one second all day long, which is a good thing, because it was really really cold today, I hear, and I took an hour long bath and made pancakes for breakfast and tried to tell my mother how to resize a window in 3.1 over the phone.

(little heart)

Then I, because I am such a swell person, agreed to babysit for Cynthia and Fran so that they could have a Valentine date, but I insisted on their going to see Shakespeare in Love. In fact, I refused to babysit if they tried to se anything else. They tried to talk me into Little Voice, a perfectly swell movie, but I wouldn't go for it. It was Shakespeare in Love or it was staying home with the kids.

I am a very controlling babysitter.

The kids were a dream, too. Right after the folks left, Molly turned to me and said "Is it bedtime yet?" so I, not wanting to pass up on the opportunity, agreed that it was, in fact, bedtime, so I read her a couple of stories, then she cheerfully went upstairs and put on her nightie and went to the potty and brushed her teeth and informed me that her favourite foods were macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, and cheese, and went to bed!

It is still new enough to me that I still am overjoyed by the Going To Bed Of Her Own Accord version of Molly rather than the Bedtime Is To Be Avoided At All Costs, Being A Product Of Satan And All version.

And when I got back downstairs, Bonnie had fallen asleep on Katie's chest. This babysitting gig is cake.

O, and by the way, the great Can Bonnie Talk or Can She Not debate has been resolved at last.

After chattering like a magpie to everyone in sight, but keeping her lips resolutely sealed around me for the past several weeks, yesterday she looked me straight in the eye and said "Baby!" Or rather, "Bay-BEE!"

Over the course of the day she said it about 43 more times, so it never rains but it pours. I should never have doubted her!

I am faintly horrified to discover that I like Cher's new single.

Now, of course I am a big fan of the 70's model--I mean, who doesn't love "Dark Lady", Half-Breed" and "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves"? But I have been less than impressed by her musical efforts of the past twenty years or so. I mean, the song "If I Could Turn Back Time" always made me think "...I'd destroy the master of this song".

But this new one, "Believe" seems to be on every time I pass the MuchMusic channel, and her astounding whiteness (she took the last scene of Elizabeth to heart, I think) and that funny little computer tickle in her voice would make me stop and watch, and now I find myself singing the damn song walking down the street!

The pod people are taking over my brain, and it's all MuchMusic's fault! Damn Canadians...

(little heart)

Um, I have missed the beginning of Siskel and Ebert for the past couple of weeks, and am at a loss as to why Ebert has been working alone. Is Siskel dead? Please enlighten me.
