10 February So, yesterday I was interviewed for the third time in 1999, and it's only February! I've been insisting that this medium (I'm with Phoenix on this one) is due to really explode in the public eye this year, and so far, it looks like I'm right! This wasn't an interview for a newspaper, though, it was for an NYU student's journalism class. As I said to him, as an NYU alumnus, how could I say no? Also, as the owner of the Ego That Ate New York, I'd do an interview for a supermarket leaflet without even thinking twice. Anyway, the guy was nice and asked good questions and he promised that he would refer to me as an actor/photographer (since that is what I am) and honestly, I think that anyone willing to listen to me talk about myself for forty-five minutes deserves a fucking medal. I'm looking forward to seeing the article!
Yesterday, my grey Gap leggings bit the dust. I have had my grey Gap leggings since 1994, when I was working at NYNEX. For some unknown reason (fat legs? Me? Nahhh...) the crotch and inner thighs keep getting holes in them, and I bring them home to my Mom, and she mends them, and more holes appear, and so on and so on, etc, blah blah blah. Well, this Christmas, as she was sewing scars on them for about the fifteenth time, she put her foot down and said that they were unmendable, that they would tear the very next time I wore them because the fabric was so worn, and that she never wanted to see them again! And she meant it this time! Well, yesterday I wore them for the first time since then, and the first time I went to the bathroom I noticed that a hole had started, and every time I subsequently went to the bathroom after that, the hole had gotten bigger and bigger, until by the time I got home they were just a bundle of rags around my hips. Farewell, o faithful grey Gap leggings, you have served me well.
It turns out that Randy Newman did get three Oscar nominations yesterday after all! Pleasantville for Original Dramatic Score, A Bug's Life for Original Musical or Comedy score and "That'll Do" from Babe, Pig in the City for Original Song! Three nominations for three different films in three different categories in a single year! That must be a first. Man, he's got to win one, he can't be a bridesmaid three times in one year...
I missed Dave Van in my birthday wishes yesterday, but this is not my fault! About a month ago, he said that he was going on hiatus, and I believed him, and didn't go back, assuming that I would hear when he started up again, like maybe he would tell me! Of course, it turns out that his hiatus lasted about four seconds--he didn't even miss a day! Anyway, I didn't know about his birthday because I didn't read about it. So, happy birthday Dave, you old bat you! Try not to break a hip!
