(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

4 February

I forgot to wish everyone Happy Day the Music Died yesterday!

I called John in LA (he's a big Buddy Holly fan) and asked him if he was going to have a theme party with little smoking ruins party favours and things, and told him that they were featuring Buddy and Ritchie Valens and The Bopper on the radio all day, of course, along with Dion, because he did not get on the plane, and they played American Pie about forty times. I mean, they had hours and hours to fill--they were gonna include everyone who ever walked by Buddy Holly!

When I came home, though, I watched the Behind the Music about them on VH1, and wept copiously.

At work yesterday, Adam was telling me a wonderful fairy story about how the department is going to get two scanners that we will use to scan in every single invoice that we have, paid and unpaid, back through 1997, and how we would get two temps to do said scanning, and then we would get another person permanently in our department, and even if we lost every single invoice that we have, we could just print out another one, and everything would be joy and glory and beer and skittles!

Why do I have the strange feeling that this utopian dream he was describing won't necessarily be as wonderful as it sounded? I'll believe it when I see it, but so far, most of the so-called improvements that we have made in the company have left me distinctly nostalgic for what was discarded.

The best part of yesterday was being interviewed by the LA Times! I know I've been interviewed before, but I'm easily thrilled, and besides, it's my hometown paper!

It was a beautiful day, so after I got the e-mail I went out to a pay phone, and was glad that I did! I basically did it because I did not want to be interrupted, but since I never get a chance to talk about on-line journals out loud, I got very loud and enthusiastic and was pacing back and forth and waving my arms around, and I think that the other people that I work with may have gotten a clue! That penny might have dropped.

Anyway, check out that Southern Living section in Sunday's paper, Angelinos! See how pithy and insightful I am! Hopefully.

The Callahans have gone loopy.

The are under the impression that Bonnie, at the tender age of ten months, is talking. Now, she does say Dada and Mama and Geegee (kitty), I will accept that, but she does say Dada sometimes having nothing whatsoever to do with Fran! Cynthia insist that sometimes Dada means Fran and sometimes it means other things that are important, which I think is a pretty slippery answer, me!

Perhaps she is a big Marcel Duchamp fan!

But my point is, now they are attributing real words to her, not just repeated syllables. Apparently, she is saying "baby" now, but I have yet to catch her at it, and today Cynthia told me a fairy story about her saying "tickle"! That when Katie tickles her, she says "Tickletickletickle!" and now Bonnie, when she wants to be tickled, says "Tickatickatickaheeheehee!"

When I was up there tonight, Fran and Cynthia and Katie were are gathered around her like witchdoctors, trying to conjure up a word. "Say baby for Kymmie! Say tickle! Tickatickaticka!" but she just chortled. They were so in the zone, though, that when a string of nonsense syllables passed her lips, they all leapt up and down crying "That was it! That was "Tickatickatickaheeheehee"!

I think they are either slowly going mad, or they are aurally hallucinating, I'm not certain which.
