(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

29 August

Boy o boy, here it is 2.44p on Sunday afternoon and I haven't actually begun writing my entry yet!

Of course, it is partially written because yesterday I carried the notebook that I got from Tracing for my birthday and jotted down notes and even wrote whole sections, but they still have to be transcribed.

And I don't really feel like it.

I saw five movies yesterday, five. I was going to leap out of bed this morning like a young gazelle and go to a bunch more, but when I awoke I was moving verrrrry slooooowly so I decided that that was my body urging me to have some weekend this weekend before this weekend is over.

I'm still going to the movies today, but not quite so many of them. Maybe three.

Okay, onto the entry.

Okay, my quest to use up ten movie passes before Wednesday continues apace, although not quite as apace as it would have been had I left the house in time to catch a 12.15p movie yesterday, which I didn't, which meant that I quickly had to entirely change my schedule. The earliest movie I could get to was The Thomas Crown Affair at the Loews at Kips Bay.

You see, there are rules with the passes. The film in question must be open at least ten days, (which means no Mickey Blue Eyes until tomorrow) and it must be playing at a Loews cinema. Or Sony, 'cause Loews and Sony merged.

But now it's Loews Cineplex, so I guess that Loews merged with Cineplex Odeon around the time that all of the Cineplex Odeon cinemas magically turned into Clearview cinemas. Honestly, I went home for Christmas one year (this year? Last year? Don't remember) and came back to find this Clearview thing everywhere. And Clearview has, without question, the ugliest logo using the most banal font with the stupidest catch-phrase and the most dreadful "don't smoke/litter/talk" film in the wide world. I can only assume that the whole thing is a practical joke.

Anyway, Clearview accepts both Loews and Cineplex passes. Confused yet? I have Cineplex Odeon passes that expire in December so there really isn't any point attempting to fob off Loews passes at Cineplex Odeon, so I'm just seeing all of the movies that I either have not seen or can stand seeing again that have been open for at least ten days and are playing at Loews, Sony or Clearview cinemas.

Which means that I am seeing some films that would not perhaps be my first choice.

So, The Thomas Crown Affair, a movie that I already saw this year when it was called Entrapment--you know, James Bond as an art thief and the woman who tries to take him down and ends up falling in love with him.

Except in this version, bizarrely, starred a man in his 40s and a woman in her 40s, something unheard of in American films lately. Must have been a mistake. I'm certain that they meant it to be Pierce Brosnan and Natalie Portman or Rene Russo and Bob Hope. Pretty soon the only men old enough to star with women in their 40's will have been dead for 20 years.

Anyway, I dug the movie very much--I just smiled the whole way through. Very charming.

Then I ran to the 23rd St. and saw trick, which was adorable. Christian Campbell was cute as a button and had dimples deep enough to swim in. I think that every movie should have a lead with dimples, as they are just so nice to watch for an hour and a half. And Tori Spelling, who knew?

After that was Blair Witch again, which was still scary and still interesting and still didn't make me sick and I loved just as much as the first time I saw it.

It's funny, I can't step one foot on a boat for vomiting, but it has never even crossed my mind to get motion sick at a movie or a TV show. Just lucky I guess!

Back to the east side where I saw, somewhat against my will, the South Park movie.

I don't watch the show, what small bits I have seen didn't particularly make me weep with laughter, but just like the Beavis and Butthead movie, I laughed my ass off.

Somebody is a Les Miz fan, too, and not a minor one, because there were a couple really clever and funny Les Miz parodies that I really appreciated. And the "Uncle Fucka" song is genius.

Then was Deep Blue Sea.

Some idiot was talking shit for half the movie as though we were all interested in his witless yawps, ("That ain't no goldfish, man! heheheh!"), but what do you expect at the 11.15p screening of Deep Blue Sea?

Hideous movie, by the way. Deeply unscary, what with the sharks looking so fake and all. "What are they scared of?" I kept thinking, "It's only a bunch of cgi!"

There was one good scream, one good laugh, and one surprising bit, all of which were the same moment. Not great for a two hour movie.

Then I staggered home and collapsed. And now I'm gonna do it again. Pray for me.
