(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

23 April

I lived through yesterday.

I lived through yesterday, and everything was just fine, really. Molly cried a time or two, but was quickly distracted and didn't even come close to going nuclear.

I was, however, shattered by the time that Cynthia picked her up at 2p because I had spent the entire day so prepared for her head to spin around and flames to shoot from her ears that the fact that it didn't happen made little or no difference.

In fact, she charmed most of the adults and formed a lifelong friendship with The Raccoon's daughter, Ashley. Or, as Molly called her all day, Ash-A-Lee.

Also, she fell in love.

I was introducing her to the most interesting adults, and took her to Luis' cubicle, knowing that he'd be a hit, and he was in spades, giving her candy and showing her a picture of his three-year-old, Matthew, and saying that he would have brought him had he known that Molly was going to be there, etc etc and Molly was fascinated.

Practically the only time she cried really, was awhile after that, in the lunchroom after she dropped her juice. She was in a slough of despond let me tell you, until I saw Chris, Luis' son, and to try to distract her, mentioned that this was Matthew's brother, and Chris said that the next time, he would bring Matthew to see Molly, but only if she stopped crying.

And she did, immediately, like flipping a switch. Wreathed in smiles, she was! And she didn't leave Chris's side for the next half-hour! He was so great with her.

After she left, I asked Luis if Chris was engaged yet, and he said yes, "About 40 times!"

"Well," I said, "The other girls will just have to step aside, because I want him to marry Molly. How old is he again?"
"Thirteen."
"Okay, he's thirteen and she's three, so he'll have to wait until he's twenty-eight and she's eighteen, okay?"
"You got it!"

And when I told Fran that I had betrothed his daughter to a boy he had never met, he remarked that by twenty-eight, Chris will have been able to get his first marriage out of the way.

Of course, I didn't get a damn thing done all day (hey, I was colouring, get off my back!) but neither could I stay late, as I had to go to the theatre and run the box for the French, which I totally didn't want to do what with being so tired and all, but when I got there, there was someone else in the box office!

"What are you doing here?" Sharon asked, "You're not on tonight!"
"You told me I was!"
(Looking through her book) "No, see, today is the 23rd and Maryann is on tonight!"
"Sharon, it's the 22nd."
"Shit!"

So she had written the days wrong, which meant that she had no-one for Saturday, and I grudgingly agreed to come in that night if I could leave at nine and have my date.

The good part was, though, that I could go home! At 6p! On a weekday! The sun was still up! And other sentences ending with an exclamation point!

You know how when you're reading something that isn't about you at all and you see your name and it kind of pops? With me, of course, it's when I see the name Kimberly, as seeing the name Kymm and not have it mean me just doesn't happen much.

Well, yesterday I was reading something, and the word "mighty" popped just like that. It's become part of me, and I don't know if that's good or bad!

I understand that after the senseless tragedy of the other day, the lawmakers and school officials have snapped to attention and are reacting by banning...

Trenchcoats.

Yes, trenchcoats. Because of course we know that the shooting didn't have a goddamn thing to do with guns. Or, to put it another way (and to quote a post on one of my mailing lists), guns don't kill people, trenchcoats kill people.

Sometimes I think that there are two kinds of people on this good earth, human beings and fucking morons.
