7 April Blah blah blah work blah blah blah beautiful day blah blah blah everyone's an idiot. You know, same old entry.
I was listening to Shmuel's tapes yesterday, and my heavens does that boy have an eclectic music collection! There was lots of swell stuff, but what I loved was the five different versions of "Tom's Diner" and all the "Stairway to Heaven"s and "When the Saints Go Marching In"s. But who the hell would have the Hebrew cast album of My Fair Lady in their collection (the offering on the tape was "Why Can't the English", absolutely hilarious to hear in a language other than English!)? Who (besides me) has ever heard of the musical A Slice of Saturday Night? I'll tell you, though, it's a real test of character to be listening to "Paradise By the Dashboard Light" on a Walkman in a pizza parlor without singing along. And after that test of will, it was "One Day More" from Les Miz while on the subway. I have never not sung along to that. I probably looked a trifle crazed while trying to restrain myself.
And when I got home, waiting for me was just the most astonishing package from Victoria in Switzerland. There wasn't just the three cds (she made her own cds! I still find that incredible impressive), but the fact that they were in a little cloth bag that will make a really nice summer purse, and in a nest of plastic Easter grass, absolutely tons of Swiss chocolate! People have really been outdoing themselves with the packaging. I'm slightly embarrassed that all I am doing is just shoving tapes into envelopes without even a note or anything. Can't wait to hear her cds, but in the meantime, there is Lindt to eat. It is so good that if I were presented with a pile of the stuff tall enough to block out the sun, I would still weep that there wasn't enough.
Nik comes home from Miami today!
