(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

21 May

Well, after all that bitching yesterday, it turned out to be a lovely day! Well, except for that hailstorm, but it was only for like ten minutes, and besides I wasn't out in it so it didn't count.

Am I self-absorbed or what?!

Yesterday, after a rehearsal in which I proved that I really did learn the first eighteen pages of my script, I popped over to see my friends Rita and Simon who were visiting New York for the first time in five years.

They were visiting another old friend, Susan, who was Rita's college roommate, and her husband Jed and one year old daughter Bailey.

I haven't seen Susan since graduation twelve years ago (was it really so long ago? Gawd I feel old!), and she kind of annoyingly looks exactly the same. Hasn't aged a minute, still skinny as a rail, baby or no baby, it's really quite astonishing. And the husband, Jed, is as nice as pie and way cute, and the kidling was all sunny smiles, and basically I want to be Susan when I grow up.

By the way, the baby thought that I was the greatest thing she has ever seen in her life--she looked at me like I was the risen Christ, to quote Anne Lamott.

I'm really popular with the under-three crowd! It's the over-twenty-fives that I have more difficulty with...

Rita-Mae, the whirlwind disguised as a person, filled me in on her life. The band is recording a cd, she and Simon delivered a first draft of their most recent screenplay to Paramount, she's meeting with Robert Evans next week to pitch him another script that she got the first tiny inkling of an idea of from this very page (I told her that I had just read that Evans had a mild stroke, but was expected to make a full recovery, and she said "I hope so, I have a meeting with him on Friday!"), she wrote another screenplay that she is shopping to producers and wants to direct, they are shooting a short film starring the band, and she just did a small role in a movie.

And what am I doing? I, um, I force strangers to care about my life!

Props go out to the Firedrake, who decided, during a dull stretch at work, to go through part of Open Pages for The Great Purge for me.

It was really funny, because her e-mails degenerated from "So-and-so hasn't updated since November" to "How stupid are these people?!" in record time!

And while I'm at it, thank you Lucy, Melody, Renee and Anita for being helpful over and above the call of duty as well! You guys all make it possible for me to actually run this ring.

Hooray! DJR is back! God loves me after all.
