25 March So last night I knew that if I didn't do my taxes my mother would kill me. I've been telling her for ages that I was working on it, and of course I wasn't, but last night was the last straw, and I swore to her that I would do it, so I buckled down and did it. Of course, by "doing my taxes" I don't mean actually writing a return, I mean getting all of my photography receipts together (those that I could find, anyway) and writing out a list of what everything is and figuring out how much money I made and sending it to my mother so that she can do my taxes. And let me tell you exactly how much I didn't want to do it. I got in at 11a which meant that I had to work until 8p. Well, I worked until 9.30. Yes, I entered invoices, the dullest part of my job, for an extra hour and a half. Now that's procrastination! But I'm done with it now! Hooray!
I haven't mention the 1099 tax forms lately, have I? Well, I had to type out all of the 1099s that my company is sending out (and by type I mean on a real typewriter, and since it's through carbons one mistake, throw it out. I didn't realize how lazy a typist you become when you work on a computer) and then I had to type out more and then I had to type out more, and I thought I was done, but last week I had to do four more. Now, the last time I had to hunt down 1099 forms I got a whole bunch extra, as they get kind of scarce as 15 April gets closer and closer, but I did not have any 1096s, which are the cover sheets that must be enclosed with a package. So I typed out the forms no prob, but spent Friday ringing stationery store after stationery store on a fruitless search for a 1096. Monday I started making calls again, and somehow the very first place I called had some! So I went downtown and thought I'd pick up two, just in case, came back and sent them off. Today I got a call from a vendor asking for a 1099, so that extra 1096 came in handy right away. When I gave the folder back to Linus after typing out the last damn form, I said to him "If I ask for this folder back again, kill me!" and he said, very cheerfully: "Sure!"
By the way, my favourite line from yesterday was, in fact: "I'd have given a kidney if Titanic had not won Best Picture, just to see the entire membership of the Academy faint like goats." Which most people did in fact guess, but Linda was first!
So last night on Leno was a rerun with Kate Winslet, Burt Reynolds and Michelle Kwan. The All Loser Panel!
