14 March Stayed at work until 10p last night. Working? Ha! Surely you jest! Actually, I worked until 8p, then I decided to do some more Open Pages stuff, since Webring was behaving. I added 35 journals from the queue (several of whom are old members who didn't update for awhile, so they were put on hold) and if you go here you can check them out. I didn't read any of them, so I cannot vouch for their quality, except for Obvious, which I already read. Then, after the adding frenzy, I went into a deleting frenzy and dumped 33 slackers! If they hadn't updated since January or before, or if they had taken down their page altogether (duh), dumped! I got lovely dumping lists from Renee, Jan and Melody that I used to start me off, but I found a bunch of others that needed major dumping. If you want to be one of my little helpers too, here's how you do it. If you come across a journal in Open Pages that has not updated in the previous month (February is fine), doesn't have the ring controls on the linked page, or is just plain GONE, please e-mail me and let me know. That ring controls on the linked page thing is a biggy. I have no idea why people say that they didn't know it was a rule, as it's clear as day on the join page. Here, let me quote:
Thus, do not hide the code on a "webring collection" page or submit the URL for your site's main or splash page. If you want people who get to your site via Open Pages to browse through other pages at your site, include links to them on your journal cover or index page. If you think the control strip will detract from your design you may:
The objective is to allow people who arrive at your site easy and quick access to the journal, but allow them to "back" out of entries easily and continue along the ring. You will not be added until the control strip or minimal Open Pages links are visible on your page." Now, how opaque is that? Pretty fucking clear to me, but whatever.
Got my very first tape from the tape exchange yesterday! I still have four to send out, so if you haven't gotten yours yet, you will, but the rest of you should certainly have gotten them. Anyway, Janel sent me hers, which looks just great, but the neat thing is that she also sent me a furry hedgehog keychain with a little pull string that makes it jump and rumble and is about the most wonderful thing that I've ever seen. Thanks Janel!
And use that "one year ago today" link yesterday and find out how appropriate it is that she sent it to me now!
