(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

28 June

So yesterday I had a swell rehearsal.

I spent a deal of it convincing my actors that in order to make the audience believe that they are making a connection they really do have to make eye contact occasionally, but they are really doing well for the most part.

Afterwards I finally rang my playwright, and ended up speaking to his mother, since he was at that moment winging his way to Paris. So I'm chatting with his mother, telling her how much I like the script, and she finally let it drop that boychik is only 19! Not only that, but he wrote my script, my charming, beautifully structured script with the smart, engaging characters when he was only 17!

I told her that personally, I didn't write a single thing worth keeping until I was twenty, and more likely twenty-five!

Then Nik and I finally managed to see Gone With the Wind, no disasters, thank you.

And it was glorious.

The fun part was that Nik had never seen the movie before ("What have you been doing with your time?" I asked), so I was really enjoying his reactions. Like when Scarlett proclaims her love for Ashley, Nik laughed when Rhett said "Has the war started already?" because he didn't know that he was there!

What a great way to see that movie for the first time.

Holy cats.

I saw the most appalling commercial yesterday morning. It was "Matchmaker Beauty Mulan" or something like that, and you dress her up all pretty and put makeup on and send her out to find a husband! Of course, in the movie that turns out to be a disaster, this being pulled and prodded and trying to be someone she's not, so I was waiting to see, in the commercial, the bit where that happened, or at least a change of armour or something.

But nope! She's just a white-faced girl with a parasol waiting for someone to pick her a husband. Were the designers of this toy even told the plot?

I have decided that my favourite sound is the sound of a man who hasn't shaved rubbing his hand across his cheek and chin.

That scratchy sound. It really gets me.
