(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

11 June

I finally did my Planet Amazon column yesterday! Only ten days late for deadline!

I think I have officially decided that I have over-extended myself. I buy the paper every day, but have no time to read it, I get something like thirty-five magazines a month (counting the five weeklies), I practically never read books anymore because I'm always behind on the mags, but I still keep buying books.

I'm always behind at work. I am behind at kicking people out of Open Pages. I am behind at adding people to Open Pages. I didn't do my crits last week. I may never be finished with the move to hedgehog.net. If I ever actually made a Planet Amazon deadline, Sandra would probably faint. The only reason that the OP page is up at all is because there were helpful, enthusiastic people who were desperate to take the OP page away from me, and if I hadn't spent Sunday re-coding it and putting it up on my site, I would have had to vigorously kick these same helpful and enthusiastic people with both feet to keep them away from it, and who wants to do that? They really are helpful and enthusiastic, and I don't want to be testy at them.

I have reached critical mass in terms of things I have time for, but I don't want to not do any of them! I just need to get organized.

So, what am I going to do this weekend? OP stuff? Reading and pitching a bunch of newspapers? Hedgehog re-coding?

Nope!

I got an e-mail from my friend Andria yesterday asking if I knew that Billy Bragg was playing at the Guinness Fleadh this weekend, and was I going?

The what?

It's a two day multi-artist concert at Randall's Island, and the line-up is as follows:

Saturday: Sinead O'Connor, The Chieftains, Chumbawamba, Squeeze, Nanci Griffith, The Saw Doctors, The Corrs, Richard Thompson, Mary Black, Dar Williams, Luka Bloom, Loudon Wainright III, Maura O'Connell, Davy Spillane, Tommy Makem, Donal Lunny Band, Clancy, O'Connell & Clancy, John Fahey, Chris Smither, Blink, Jeb Loy Nichols, John Martyn, Rubyhorse, Rogues March, Great Big Sea, Susan McKeown, Noella Hutton, Richard Davies, Dirk Hamilton, Jimmy McCarthy.

Sunday: Tracy Chapman, Indigo Girls, Los Lobos, X, Rosanne Cash, Shane MacGowan, Patti Smith, Wilco, Billy Bragg, The Saw Doctors, Joe Ely, Paul Brady, Black 47, Altan, Yo La Tengo, Eileen Ivers Band, Frances Black, Capercaille, Natalie MacMaster, Hayden, Too Cynical to Cry, Pierce Turner, Mary Coughlan, Mary Jane Lamond, The Prodigals, The Bogmen, Solas, The Frames, Greg Garing, Francis Dunnery.

If it was only Billy and Squeeze that'd be enough for me, but also Black47 and X and the Indigo Girls and Luka Bloom and Dar Williams and Sinead O'Connor and Richard Thompson?

So that's what I'm doing this weekend!

Heard over the intercom at work:

"Client Services, please come to Client Services!"

What an either fortunately or unfortunately named person!!

Here's the real difference between Nik and myself. He rushed home last night to see the basketball game (it's June! When will they ever stop playing basketball?!), and I rushed home last night to see the all-male version of Swan Lake on Great Performances on public television, which was absolutely swell.

Hello, walking stereotype here, pleased to meet you.

Okay, Diane was interviewed for a Salon article on web journals and I wasn't! After the horror of being interviewed for and left out of the New York Times article, I find it desperately depressing to not be asked!

I am clearly either the most egotistical or the most pathetic journalist on the web!
