28 July This was received in the mail at work yesterday from The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Taxation, and it is currently my favourite piece of mail that I have ever seen:
We have attempted to contact you by telephone and correspondence urging you to file a tax return for the deliquent period(s) on your account (see attatchment). If you wish to avoid further collection activity, please file the return(s) and send payment in full in the form of a check or money order payable to the "Virginia Department of Taxation". Also, please write your taxpayer account number on the payment to ensure prompt and accurate crediting of your account. Failure to respond to this letter within ten (10) days could result in further legal enforcement action."
And on the next page is the amount which we owe. The total amount due when it's all added together, is ".00". That is not a typo. And if we don't pay it in ten (10) days, it could result in further legal enforcement action! You can't put anything past The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Taxation--they are tough, I tell you!
So it's not a terribly personal entry today, but I'm tired...
