(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

25 January

Since I spent yesterday pretty happily sweeping, buying groceries, cleaning the cat box, taking out the garbage, doing piles of laundry, catching up on my e-mail and watching skating (Petrenko should be physically restrained from doing that Beatles routine ever again. It's almost unwatchable.) I have nothing that thrilling to impart in today's entry.

Making this a perfect time to tell more stories from my holiday!

27 December

Saw Wag the Dog, which was without question one of the top films of last year. Smart and cynical and flat out hilarious, and it went like the wind.

I started the search for a five year diary. What is a five year diary, you ask? Well, it's a diary that is 365 pages long and each page is divided into 5 sections with each section marked "1 Jan 1998" "1 Jan 1999" "1 Jan 2000", etc., and every day for five years you write in it until you fill up every section of every page and you can look at it and see what you've been doing on the same day every year!

God, that was a confusing explanation! But you understood, didn't you? Anyway, I saw one when I saw the diary exhibition at the Morgan library on my birthday--they were very popular in the 1880's. Of course, they no longer exist, but I thought I could make one if I could find a blank book that was 365 pages long. Which was a good deal easier said than done!

28 December

Saw Kundun and Jackie Brown.

I enjoyed them both very much. Kundun really gave a look into a completely alien world, and Jackie Brown was lots of fun. I'm really rooting for Robert Forster to get a nomination, because in his quiet way he stole the film from everyone, including Samuel L. Jackson who was chewing up the walls!

29 December

Went to Magic Mountain.

My friend Melanie is working there now, so she gave me a pass for Christmas. I like Magic Mountain, but haven't been in about fifteen years, because I always go to Disneyland instead! But I picked up her husband, Scott, and her three kids and brought them with me, since somehow both of their cars had ended up there.

When I drove up they were all waiting for me on the doorstep, and as soon as they saw me they started jumping up and down shouting "Hooray! Kymm's here! Hooray, hooray!!" which is an extremely gratifying reaction to one's presence. I told them that they had to follow me around cheering for the rest of my life as an ego boost. I picked up Rebeccah, who is three, and said to her "What are you cheering about? You have no idea who I am!"

Anyway, when we got to the park I decided to hang out with them rather than split up. When you're with a bunch of kids you get a much different theme park experience. It was alot of fun! I got on my share of rides, though not as many as I would have if I were alone, and the kids were great.

At one point Katherine, who is eight, said to me "You're like a Mom to me" and I said "Except for the fact that I'm only here two weeks out of the year!"

30 December

I went to lunch with my friend Teri and her daughter, Kristen, who is four. I hadn't seen her since she was like one or something. It was funny, because I have known Teri since I was five and she was four, and Kristen looked exactly but exactly like Teri's sister Stacy when we were kids, and Teri looked exactly like her own mother from that time period as well, so the whole experience was like going back in time.

After lunch we went over to her folks' place, which is around the corner from my house. At one point, Joan (the mother) brought out this big box that said "Fruit and Nut" on it, and Teri said "O, it's Aplets and Cotlets!"

Now I don't know how many of you out there know what Aplets and Cotlets are, but they are my favourite candy from when I was a kid, and the last time I saw it was about seven years ago at Disneyland, which means that everytime I go there I ferret around looking for Aplets and Cotlets for absolutely hours, and I had (get this) just been to Disneyland four days previously!

I think when Joan brought out the box, she was not expecting my gleeful reaction, like it was the grail or something.

So close and yet so far...only six more days to re-create!
