(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

12 January

Yesterday I babysat for Molly while Cynthia and Francis went to Karate workout. At 7a. Argh.

Cynthia came and woke me when they left, and I staggered upstairs to go back to sleep in their bed, because Molly was still sleeping and that's where she would go when she woke up.

So I was awakened by a shriek of horror when she saw me rather than Mommy and Daddy! I sat up immediately and told her that they were at the dojo, and she calmed right down, but she was really thrown by the whole thing! She had no picture of it in her world-view.

Anyway, we fed the kitties and fed ourselves and were about to settle down and watch Pooh when the parents returned. Which distracted Molly enough so that the adults were able to watch a sub-titled Japanese film with Toshiro Mifune on the Independent Film Channel!

That doesn't happen often with a two year old around, I'll tell ya.

Okay, more from the vacation!

22 December

Had dinner with Rita and Simon. Not much to say about that, we just ate and talked!

Had my hair dyed and cut and shopped for Xmas presents and a tree. I always want the tallest tree that will fit and Mom always wants a little one that we can put on top of a table. After alot of fussing this year, I won and we got a seven-and-a-half foot tree, the tallest ever. And since out living room ceiling is only eight feet, it's the tallest one we can ever have!

Then I went to the movies and saw Welcome to Sarajevo and Good Will Hunting, both of which I enjoyed very much.

Sarajevo was excellent--it reminded me of Schindler's List. It's not an epic, but it was similar in that it showed such casual atrocities. I liked Good Will, too, but not as much as John did; he saw it four times. To mis-quote Nora Ephron, Matt Damon is so covered with moles he looks like a poppy seed bagel.

I was forced to go to a Christmas Eve party at my mother's agent's house. It wasn't as hideous as I expected it to be, but I'd have much preferred to stay home. We were both tired afterwards and decided to skip midnight mass.

Merry Christmas!

In my stocking I got earrings and a gold painted box with an angel figurine on it and an angel Christmas tree ornament (I'm not into angels, but they are really nice), a turquoise necklace, an electronic address book, fancy yellow guest soaps (I asked Mom if I had told her that my bathroom was yellow, and she said no), ceramic cat button covers, and a couple of refrigerator magnet picture frames.

Under the tree I got a blue fleece bathrobe with pictures of earmuffs and ice skates and things, a red fleece headband to cover my ears in the cold, a pair of moccasins, a pair of my Easy Spirit shoes that I wear every day, a bolo tie with a rhinestone treble clef and a pair of liberty dollar cufflinks that belonged to my father, the books Survival of the Fittest (the new Kellerman), The Angel of Darkness (the sequel to The Alienist) and Pictures in My Head (Gabriel Byrne's autobiography), a bunch of various underwear (including a bra that was so oddly made that the XL was too big and I had to get the large! I don't know what kind of bovine freak would fit into the XL!), some t-shirts from the Emmy's and the LA Jazz Festival that I was supposed to get a few years ago, a lucite mantle clock, a needlepoint Sylvester and Tweety clock (I haven't needlepointed since I was around nine, so I'm not confident of the results), a wooden block calendar, a purse, and a bunch of videos from the Academy.

The movie To Kill a Mockingbird was on TV, and they're thinking of making it an annual event. I can imagine a no less festive film.

26 December

I made my annual trip to Disneyland.

I had never seen it so crowded in my life. A few years ago I went in a torrential rainstorm and the place was nearly deserted, and I vowed that I would always go to Disneyland in the rain from now on. And every time since, it has always been a gorgeous day, and I always think "Man, I've gotta go in the rain next time!"

Well, it was beautiful on the day after Christmas, and it was packed. The queue for Small World alone was 50 minutes long! I had a great time, though. The strap on my new purse broke.

Saw the new politically correct version of The Pirates of the Caribbean. They changed the bit where the pirates were chasing women around to them chasing women carrying plates of food. However, the Buy a Bride Auction was still there.

Wonder why they thought that chasing women was bad and wrong but selling women was a swell feminist statement?

More later! Possibly tomorrow, but I'm not making any promises...
(happy anniversary, Melody!)

One year ago today:
I have never in my life seen anything as incredibly sexy as Scott with that gun in his hand.
