10 January I fucking hate my job. I have liked working with Diane so much this past year, but when we move into the new space she will be heading up the new Human Resources department, so they have gotten a new girl to head up my department. She arrived while I was away, and I have worked in the same office with her for this past week and... I don't like her. I don't think she's wildly crazy about me, either. I was given my files back in order to put them into proper alphabetical order, and I asked Diane where my other file was, the one where I kept the expense reports, and New Chick said "Why do you need another file? You should keep them altogether!" I explained that it was easier to keep them separately and she told me that I had to keep them together. And at that moment I decided to quit. Does that seem silly, quitting because of a file? But that's not it, really. I work with an incredible amount of freedom with Diane--she lets me get on with things in my own way and time, but I can tell that New Chick is going to be very hands on and controlling and condescending and I don't want to work with her. I mean, part of this is probably the fact that I'm feeling really left out that she's learning the new system and I'm re-arranging the files, but the fact remains that I can see what life with New Chick will be like, and I don't want that.
After work, in a vile mood, I stomped over to Sharon's to start rehearsing for my new show. O, did I not mention my new show? It's in an evening of Tennessee Williams one-acts called The Long Stay Cut Short or The Unsatisfactory Supper and I'm performing with my sweetheart Kevin, one of my favourite people to work with, and Sam, whom I directed in the vampire play from last year. This got me out of my bad mood pretty fast. Sam is going to walk away with the show without even trying. He's playing Aunt Rose, and though that sounds like a stunt, he is not a drag queen, he's an actor who sometimes plays women's roles, and as far as our company goes, he plays old ladies much better than any real old lady we have. He's hilariously funny, but also very real and moving, particularly on his last line. Kevin and I are going to have to work hard for anyone to notice that we're on-stage at all!
I got more mail regarding yesterday's entry than usual, but between people telling me that the key carts are pretty standard all over the world and people admitting that they too love figure skating, I was feeling pretty darn popular! For the skating fans, the best skating page out there is this one.
So I was talking to Gregory the other day, teasing him about how he waited for me to leave town until he came to New York, and he said that he would be in again next week and why didn't we get together then? Eep!
Gregory Alkaitis-Carafelli wants to meet me?
