20 February This mother-fucking move at work is driving me to heroin. I was there 'till 9.30p last night packing (I thought it would take two boxes--it took four. I clearly learned nothing from The Hideous Move From Hell) not to mention that I had to get all those goddamn checks out and everything, and I just thank God for that mix tape! I walked around with my Walkman on all day, and there's only so angry you can get while listening to They Might Be Giants sing Cowtown. It was such an irritating day, though, that I ended up having to stomp out, borrow money from my mother's credit card, go to Sam Goodie's, and buy Ani DiFranco's new album and the soundtrack from The Irish in America--The Long Journey Home!
I swear to God, I have never seen anything so hilarious than the bit of curling I saw on TV. I mean, it's an hysterical sport even in theory, but watching it and hearing the commentator say: "Now, the United States Men's curling team advanced into the medal round of their event with a thrilling win over Japan. The winning shot, and listen to the excitement here, came onto the hammer, in curling the hammer in the final stone of a match. Tim Summerville's shot ricocheted into perfect position, knocking two Japanese stones out of what curlers call "the house". And the loss left the Japanese team captain in tears." And the Americans were jumping up and down and screaming, and the Japanese were on their knees crying, and I swear it was like watching some sort of Martian sport. And I wondered what it would be like to care so deeply about something so ultimately silly and unimportant. Then I realize that online journaling is the net equivalent of curling. What we do makes no sense to those outside, but to us it's the most important thing in the world!
I put on my jammies the other night, the ones that I bought right before moving in here, and was horrified at how tight they had become! I could barely close the buttons on the jacket and the snaps on the trousers kept flying apart and I was thinking "I know that I haven't been doing well with my diet lately, but how could I have gained so much weight so quickly?! Hey, wait a minute! I seem to have gotten taller, too!" And it was then that I realized that the pajamas shrunk...
I don't buy that I could possibly have had as many hits as I had yesterday and have gotten as few mix tape requests as I had! C'mon, guys, it's a really great tape! It kept me from killing people today! So, it's not only aesthetically pleasing, it's useful to boot. And equally, I'm dying to hear your favourite songs/artists! So, to re-iterate, if you want me to send you a copy of my tape and you in turn want to send a mix tape to me, let me know.
