(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

9 December

Lord, I got up late yesterday and I had not written the night before as I usually do, and I forgot every single thing that I had meant to write! So, I'm going to talk intensely about Monday for a while, hope you don't mind!

Just cast your mind back...back...back into the past...

(snowflake)

So Monday morning I got up, put on a light sweater and my new green silk jacket, took one step outside, turned around, went back inside and changed into a t-shirt and my new green silk jacket. And about half-way on my walk to work I stuffed my new green silk jacket into my bag.

It was hot! And I don't mean hot for December in New York, I mean hot no matter when or where it is! By the clock on the car rental place it was 70°, for heaven's sake!

You'd never know that it was the dead of winter if it wasn't for the fact that the sun went down at 3.30 in the afternoon!

Y'know, I really feel guilty about whining about the early sunset when I read Jackie...I don't stop whining, I just feel guilty!

I was sitting at my desk, working like a beaver, when the Evil Overlord came up to me and asked me to type an envelope for her.

I sort of looked at her in horror, and said that I didn't know how to type envelopes using the computer and that I could write the envelope if she really wanted me to, and she asked if there wasn't a typewriter, and I said yeah, somewhere, and she left the address with me.

I am not this woman's secretary.

(snowflake)

I really was going to do it, I really was going to type the fucking envelope, though not until after I finished all of the work that I actually had to finish since I wasn't coming in on Tuesday, but then, at 6.30p, the phone rang. It was Cynthia.

"Are you as stupid as I am?"
"Doubtful."
"Well, let's see. What's today?"
"Monday? The 7th? O God, is it Le's birthday?"
"Close, it's Le's opening night!"

A little backstory, Le runs our theatre company, Love Creek, and it is only respectful to come out for his opening nights. I mean, he has only given us both the opportunity to act and direct Off-Off Broadway for the last ten years, not to mention the fact that he is a close friend, and he is understandably hurt when his opening nights are sparsely attended.

So I hung up the phone and I barreled through at least two hours of work in an hour and a half, remembered to fill out my time sheets and leave them on Diane's desk, and left that address on the Evil Overlord's desk with a note saying that I couldn't find the typewriter and that I wouldn't be in on Tuesday, implying that perhaps she should find someone else to type her envelope, or possibly write the address like everyone else on earth does.

Do a job badly, and they never ask you to do it again!

Anyway, I left at 7.55p, found a cab in two seconds (faintly shocking, since the TV studio across the street steals every cab within a ten block radius), and got to the theatre before it started and about seven seconds before Cynthia.

It was three one acts by Lanford Wilson, Abstinence, Thymus Vulgarus and The Betrothal, and the first play was extremely good (marred only by one ham-handed actor), the second play had excellent perfs but the script needed major cutting, but the last show was one of the best things ever at Love Creek, with two wonderful actors giving arguably their best performances ever.

I wondered, afterwards, whether the show, which was completely charming, was anything like as good when you just read it, and I'll bet it wasn't. But a great job of directing by Le, and points for me for making it to opening night!

Stuff to tell from yesterday, but I've run out of space, time, energy and inclination, so it'll have to wait!

(snowflake)

O wait, one more thing, when I asked about the big spike in my hits, saying "Where are you people from?" I didn't mean where do you live, I meant where the heck am I linked that generated so much unusual traffic! That said, I got some great e-mails yesterday telling me about where ya'll are from, so even though the mystery is still in place, it was a nice accident.

(snowflake)

O wait, shit, one more thing (I might as well have just written about yesterday after all), I'm doing Web Writers in the Flesh tonight at 7.30p! Come one, come all!

Okay, now I'm really done.
