(The Mighty Kymm--you'll not see nothing like!)

8 September

So yesterday I met another online friend!

I've been talking to this guy in Holland, Jeroen, for like a year on the Randy Newman list from back when he and I were two out of three people on said list, and he's visiting New York with his fiancée, Anne-Marie, and the three of us spent yesterday together.

And don't think my mother didn't say "Uh-oh...watch out!" when I said I was meeting someone from on-line!!

Anyway, we met at the Guggenheim and I was like 45 minutes late because why? Because I forgot on which side of Central Park Fifth Ave. ends up (how long have I been living here?). And of course the Guggenheim is 90% shut down because of some massive exhibit that is being crammed in so we ended up going to the Whitney to see the Haring exhibit, which was a bizarre time-warp back to the early eighties when I first came to New York and would see Haring's graffiti in the subway.

There were alot more dicks than I personally remember in his work, but there was this fantastic painting that I completely fell in love with. It was of a dog who gets beamed by a UFO so it glows, and then a man fucks the dog so his penis glows, and then people worship the glowing dog, and they worship the glowing penis.

Okay, that doesn't look quite as good written down, but trust me, it's a quite extraordinary piece.

Then we went to dinner at the Dine-O-Mat in Times Square, which was totally my idea, so I take total responsibility of the fact that after we put in our order the waitresses all stood up and started singing show tunes. Not to mention the fact that a high school singing group also leapt up and did a couple of numbers.

And I was jeering at them...but then I had this strong flashback from 1978. I was 14 years old on my first trip to New York with a group from my high school. And if we had had that opportunity we would have done exactly the same thing.

And then at the end of the day when we parted, I told him how from now on when I read his e-mails I would hear his voice, because he writes like he talks. And I said "I write how I talk, too!" and Jeroen said "Yes, long sentences and lots of them!"

I want that as a quote on a book cover:

The Adventures of Ulee the Hedgehog Girl
by Kymm Zuckert

"Brilliant!"
New York Times

"Hilarious!"
People Magazine

"Long sentences and lots of them!"

I'll have a grilled cheese with bacon and tomato and a Coke, please.
