4 October I was so tired yesterday!! Both yesterday and the day before I had to be the receptionist, which meant getting in at 8.30 which meant getting up at seven which meant going to bed at the exact same time as I always do which meant walking around like a zombie for two days. And yesterday was so long, too! I had tons of work to do and I would look at the clock, work for around twenty to thirty minutes, look at the clock, and only five minutes had gone by! I was almost certain at this point that time had actually stopped...
After work I got together with John and we saw U-Turn. All I can say is YESYESYES!!!! What a wonderful movie. I would recommend seeing it on the same day as L.A. Confidential, as they're sort of the two ends of the noir spectrum. L.A. Confidential is big sprawling story about lots of people and the big city, and U-Turn is a really small story about a tiny group of people in a little town up the ass of nowhere. And the funny thing is that it's a really dark dark noir, but because it takes place in the desert, it's shot and lit in this very bright white hot light, so it certainly is the brightest noir ever made. But it's funny and scary and bloody and great and go see it.
Let's see, was there something else I wanted to talk about? Hmmm...
Okay. Okay... So last night I went to see the Candyman's show (I wasn't wild to, but I had promised), and it was pretty good, and afterwards I was standing out front with a few friends and he comes out and makes this bee-line for these two guys who had come to the show, and at that moment my friends decided to go to the bar and I didn't want to stand around in front of the theatre with my thumb up my ass, so I went too. So I'm hanging around in there and he comes in with his pals and he passes me and grins and says "I heard you out there!" (I have an extremely distinctive laugh) and moves on with his boys. So I sit all night and talk to my friend Debby and he talks to his friends and the people in his show and we never look at each other and we never talk to each other but I always know exactly where he is in the room. Then I see him get up and get his coat and I'm thinking "fuck you motherfucker" he's making the rounds and saying goodbye to people and he comes over to our table and says goodnight to Deb and kisses me and says goodnight and walks away and I'm thinking "I hope you walk into traffic" and I'm rolling my eyes at Deb and muttering "Tell you in a minute" and right before he goes through the door he bounds back over to me like a puppy and says: "Hey, you wanna do something sometime? We should do something sometime! You wanna go to the Museum of Television and Radio? We should go to the Museum of Television and Radio? I love that place! You wanna go next weekend? Let's talk during the week!" And then he leaves. And I'm thinking "Who are you and what have you done with the man who was ignoring me all evening? Well, whoever you are, don't let that other guy come back!"
