20 November So yesterday I went to the dentist. When I told my mother that I would be going to the dentist that day, she said that she was going to the dentist that day, too, and then Cynthia told me that our friend Bill was going to the dentist at long last to have his teeth replaced. So apparently, yesterday was National Kymm's Friends and Family Dental Hygiene Day! Hope you flossed!
So was my visit the completely pain-free joy that it was last week? Not a chance. I thought that it was pretty unusual to have it be completely painless and not need any extra shots or anything, and the odds were almost astronomical for that to happen twice. Anyway, Dr. Berman gave me seven shots of Novocaine plus a topical squirt and I was pretty much completely numb from the top of my head down to my hips...except for one of the three teeth he was working on, which was completely one hundred percent wide awake. After I was still wincing after the squirt (which was remarkably bad tasting) he said "I guess that means that there's decay really near the nerve, so you'll probably need a root canal pretty soon." I explained to him that I always have a really high resistance to Novocaine, so it was the fact that I was completely numbed the last time was the unusual thing, not the fact that I wasn't this time. So he backed off on the whole root canal idea. For now.
It was amazing seeing Molly the other day. It's as though she's in time-lapse photography or something--I hadn't seen her for two weeks, and she had really obviously grown and actually said a four word sentence to me! She's way beyond those babyish two-word sentences. By the way, the sentence was "Look at my shoes!" It may not sound like much, but she's not even two, so I was impressed.
I have been carrying this massively enormous bag for the past couple of weeks, as a strap broke on my regular bag. Anyway, for two weeks I have been carrying this thing, and suddenly yesterday four people who see me every day were elaborately shocked at its size. It hadn't grown from the day before--I don't know why suddenly everyone was gasping at it.
