19 July So I woke up this morning, and I was laying in bed trying to figure out what was different. O yeah! I wasn't miserable! I was under the covers and the fan was off for the first time in a week, and a cool breeze was wafting in the window at the foot of my bed (yes, it was wafting!). And this is a terrible cliché, I know, but you really do appreciate beautiful weather more if it's a big contrast between what came before. And it is and I do!
So yesterday I thought I'd get my costume, what with the show opening on Sunday and all, so I went to Bloomies to get a sleeveless undershirt (what Francis calls a "guinea wife-beater t-shirt") in red to replace the one that I had to throw out after Pirandello. Guess what? You can't get a red sleeveless undershirt anymore! Everything's so goddamn minimalist these days that black, white, and grey are your choices. So I bought a pack of bright white ones and thought I'd get some Rit dye and colour it, but then I remembered that when the material is very thin it doesn't take the colour well, so it would in fact be pink. Which is not good. And it can't stay white because of the symbolism and the lighting, so Cynthia suggested buying extra feathers (I need feathers to put in my hair, and I sure hope that I can get them on the weekend) and gluing them to the shirt and that will break the bright white.
Then we had this really lame rehearsal last night, and Cynthia gave us these bullshit supportive notes that I thought were hilarious, mostly because I have given those notes myself when I direct. "Okay, the show is there, you've got it, you just need to trust that fact, and make some really minor adjustments." heeheehee
Woolworth's is closing! I'm not surprised, because the last time I went to Woolworth's the selection was awfully shoddy and the store was pretty dingy and the writing was on the wall and everything, but I'm still sorry. I remember being at Interlochen (boarding school in the middle of the woods in Michigan) and going into town on the weekend and having lunch at the Woolworth's on the main drag. We'd have hamburgers, and the waitress had a big blonde beehive and was sweet as can be, even though we were so stupid that we didn't know that we were supposed to tip. No more Woolworth's. I can't quite get my mind around that.
