Well, here I am, doing the Diary Collaboration!
This month's subject is "Tell a story from your life that dealt with racism. You as the victim, you as the aggressor, or you as the bystander."

I was thinking about it, and I couldn't think of a single example. I tend to be fairly oblivious, so if I've ever been discriminated against, then I don't know about it, and I certainly have never been the "aggressor" or the "bystander", and I couldn't think of a thing to write, but then I remembered a couple of incidents from about ten years ago that I don't think I have ever mentioned here.

When I lived with my ex-boyfriend, Greg, in Hoboken, there was alot of tension between the long-time residents who were mostly Italian, and the yuppie newcomers who were WASPS, and if you were non-ethnic looking, you'd get alot of "Go back to New York!" yelled at you on the street. But what Greg and I got was alot weirder.
We were walking down the street one day holding hands, and these guys yelled at us:

"FAGGOTS!!!"

Now, I'm very tall, but I had hair down to my ass at the time, and was thrown for a loop! And then, a week later, it happened AGAIN! And I was wearing a SKIRT that time! And when they yelled:

"FAGGOTS!!!"

at us, that time I was prepared, and I whirled around and yelled:

"I'm a GIRL you ASSHOLE!!!!"

And that is my only real story about racism and me. And I'm glad of it.

My dear friend Vince has started an online journal! I am most pleased, because the two best writers on the web who had no online journals were Vince and Austin, so it's one down, one to go. So, everyone should visit Vince's site, and Austin's too, and tell Austin to be assimilated.

Resistance is useless...

The sweetest thing happened yesterday.
I was reading through my piled up e-mail, and I came across some info from the Randy Newman Discussion Group that Randy had been at a seminar on Saturday in Los Angeles, and I didn't know about it, and I could have gone, so I posted:

"I'm just writing to say goodbye. I'll be killing myself now. I was THERE on Saturday and live TEN MINUTES from the venue.

Goodbye cruel world...

Kymm"

And I got this very worried letter from a friend who wanted to make absolutely CERTAIN that I had been joking. So I posted a disclaimer, and then got another letter from another friend who said that he was just about to write me and ask the same question.

Aren't my friends nice?
