Well, the worst of yesterday is easy to say.

In the Big Room Full of People where I work, David, who is Jewish, and Angie, who is black, decided to start discussing the relative merits of Mayors Dinkins and Guilliani, which evolved into a debate about Crown Heights, which degenerated into a screaming fight full of sentences like "Do you know what your problem is?"

At one point they started discussing me, for some reason that I cannot fathom, and I had to turn and say "Look, I'm in the fucking room, okay? Don't talk about me as if I'm not here--in fact, leave me out of your argument altogether."

It was a fucking nightmare.

P.S. Worst thing Part 2--Some contractors were in Big Room Full of People putting doors on the cabinets and suddenly, they all pulled out of the wall and fell on Angie's head and she had to go to the hospital.

Angie bugs the shit out of me sometimes, but she's a good person, and I hope she's alright.

The best thing was that the contractors were discussing the accident, and one of them, Keith said to the other, The Greek God, that Angie was his favourite, and The Greek God turned to me and said "You my favourite". Then Diane, the most beautiful girl in the office, walked by, and The Greek God did a double take, and then said to me:

"You STILL my favourite!"

David was telling us about this boss he used to have who would sit at his desk with his feet up and yell for David to press "enter" for him. I asked him if he was ever pussy enough to actually do it, and he got hugely insulted.

If the little collar with the bells on it fits...

I would like to thank Laurel, Norm, Michele, Raquel, Linda, Lisa, Jim, Robert, Keri and Ivan, Donald, David, Patti, Steve, Gary, Roy, Kathy, Jeroen, Steph, Wiesja, Charlie, Julius, Lucy, Melody and Robert. They all sent lovely e-mails and were extremely supportive at this awful, awful time.

Also, I got cards and flowers and phone calls from Geoffrey, Cynthia, Thomas, Laura, John, Robin, Jed and Joanie, Michael and Marq.

Another note from Jeroen:
'To change the subject: I was talking to a friend of mine, her mother died two years ago, and when I told her about how I read your father died, her only comment was: "so now she knows." She couldn't have said it more clearly.'
