Today is John's 29th birthday! Happy birthday, John!
Only one more year until that quick downhill slide to death!
For months and months every time we went to the hardware store to pick up stuff for the office, John would gaze lovingly at an NYPD Zippo lighter and threaten to buy it someday, and I had my fingers crossed that he wouldn't so that I could get it for him. That's what I love doing, when someone mentions casually that they want something, and you can surprise them with it ages later.
So yesterday I went to the store and got it and some fluid and flints and wrapped it up beautifully and left it on his desk with a note that he was not allowed to open it 'till I got there.
In the mornings before I leave for work I usually turn on A&E and watch part of Columbo or McCloud or McMillan and Wife, and I feel that I really must state on the record that after Susan St James left McMillan and Wife and it was just McMillan, it was VERY BAD!
Here's how they covered her leaving in the story: Mac and Sally loved each other very much, and then she and their new baby die in a plane crash. Mildred, the maid, was so upset that she quit her job and moved away, and Mac was pretty broken up for about one episode, but then he started serial dating in the next episode and everything was hunky-dory.
The reason this is so annoying is that Mac and Sally are one of the great TV couples. I mean besides the running around and solving crimes part, they had a very real relationship, and then to have him forget everything (not to mention the dead baby) and just start shagging like a minx, as Austin Powers would say, with a different bimbo every week was absolutely bad and wrong.
It just proves the contempt that TV executives have for the audiences.
If there's anything that I find tiresome when I'm reading on-line journals is when diarists are bitching about updating. If you hate updating so very much, don't keep a journal then, for fuck's sake.
Spare me.
