26 April
I left work at 6.15 yesterday! For me that's like leaving at noon.
We had sent a payment to Pacific Bell for the phone bill for the California office, but they were threatening to turn off the phones there in 45 minutes, so I was trying to find the invoice, but I couldn't. Later, I spoke to Diane, and she told me that what had happened was that the check that we sent them was for two different accounts, but only one account number was on the check, so they applied the entire amount to only the one account. "So", I said, "This whole thing was all my fault, then, for omitting the second account number." Diane laughed and concurred. What a way to wrap up the week!
On the subway going home last night there were these four girls, around fifteen years old, and one of them was clearly the winner of the "Most Piercing Shriek in New York" award, and she kept yelling "NO! STOP IT!! GET AWAY FROM ME!!!" And it was clearly some sort of joke, because her friends kept laughing like drains, and everyone in the car kept muttering "I wish I had a gun" (okay, that was me). It was as though she was getting assaulted (which she was not) and after about twenty minutes of this really indescribable noise, even the kindest among us wished that she was being assaulted. I cannot conceive of this kind of inconsideration. I mean, I was pretty obnoxious at that age, but even I would never have done anything like that. Anyway, when they left the train (and not one second too soon, I'll tell you that), the Horrible Girl gave one last parting screech "GOODNIGHT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!!!"
and they exited out into the night.
I was trying to figure out why everyone was screaming at me on the phone yesterday and my head was killing me and I was just miserable and then I noticed that my phone has a volume control...
Pat Paulsen will never run for President again.
