11 October Yesterday I got a call from my mother saying that my father is in the hospital. He got an angioplasty (sp?) yesterday afternoon, and he's in I.C.U. So, I'll write my funny little anecdotes about Chicago down below, but please everyone pray for my Da.
Here's another funny thing that the boat tour guy said in Chicago: "On your right is a pleasure yacht for rent with a helicopter on the aft deck. However, since the Coast Guard forbids take-offs from Lake Michigan, the engine has been removed and the helicopter has been bolted to the deck, making it the largest hood ornament on Lake Michigan."
Last Friday I went to the Art Institute, which is a wonderful museum. There was, of course, the Degas exhibit, which is very popular. It was good, but Degas doesn't rock my world. Much more exciting were the Thorne Miniature Rooms, which are historically accurate, incredibly detailed little rooms. No matter how cool anyone was when they walked in, in five minutes their noses were pressed against the glass and they were saying things like: "Look at the tiny little bird cage!"
It was also wonderful to see Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte in person after loving it for so many years. "Sunday, by the blue purple yellow red waters, on the green golden glimmering grass..."
